Plastic or aluminum body?

I've been looking at possibly getting the DRIS 1000 lumen light. I tried my buddy's and it seemed very heavy compared to the plastic bodied ones I've tried. The last thing I want to do is drag more weight around. Is one better than the other for any reason(s)?

Aluminum is better for heat dissipation. This is much more important in LED lights than any other, because the LEDs cannot operate at the high temperatures other light sources do.

If you're worried about the weight, take a bit off your weight belt. As long as you don't loose the light, you'll be fine.

I like plastic delrin body over aluminium . Weight between plastic POM and alu is almost without differences . But have a lot of other quality like : POM is corrosion resistive ( can not conduct electricity ) much more sturdy

(higher instance impact resistance ) . Aluminium absorb impact that mean if you drop torch to the floor and hit threads section would torch probably not be able to open or will leak .

You need aluminium only for heat dissapation ( could be solved also that but leave that story ) For instance ALU-POM combination backup http://www.ammonitesystem.com/products,compact-torches,13#menu

Plastic (avg.) ~1,35 g/cm³
Aluminium ~2,70 g/cm³

Anyway i would prefer alu because of haptic and most important heat dissapation.

Yes, but the acetal/POM/delrin would have to be at least 2x thicker than the aluminium.

Anyway i would prefer alu because of haptic and most important heat dissapation.

Ok - new materials exist and there are "good" plastic lamps.

But never the less there is no plastic that has nearly the heat dissapation rate of metallic material.
And heat has to be lead away e.g. by metallic insert. (affecting high-power lights)

The DRIS uses 3 C cells, so that right there is not going to be light. It does give you supposedly 5 hours of run time though.

They also have a shorty that runs on AAs. It is still 1000 lumens and they say it is .75 lbs. Run time is down to 1 hour at max.
