I just got my order from Cutter and decided to post some beam shots of the new 6 degree Polymer Optics for my triple Cree flashlight mod.
The light right now is only acting as a "test bed" for the optics, I plan on using the optics in a much smaller light I'm designing with a lot of heat sinking.
I wanted to get a nice tight beam with some 'spill' to fill in when using as a helmet light. I also wanted quality small optics to make a triple Cree helmet unit that is light, small and throws out a good beam down range.
These seem to fit my needs very well.
The images are shot using a cheap digital camera and don't show much spill or depth, believe me the beam was not as narrow as the photo's show.In the last photo the first tree is about 35 ft and the garage is about 100ft.
The Cree's used for the shot's were P4's(170lm).
It still is lots of light for a helmet unit.

Hi MtLuke

They look good. Did those p4s come with the flashlight and what are you driving them with?
I've got the same light which might be getting the same treatment.

The light I left stock, I just shortened it a bit.
I'm not sure what amp rating they're being driven at. I only have a meter that goes up to 200 ma.
I run it off an external battery pack.
I was going to use the light as a helmet mount but it's turned into a "test mule" for a few items, like switches, optics, cables and mounts.
I don't think I'll be using as a helmet rig, it seems too big.
The optics measure out to be very small and are dwarfed by the housing.
I'm currently working on a small, very compact head unit that will have lots of heat sinking and runs on 3 Crees using Q5's. It should put out about 600lm with optic losses.
I'll post as it gets near complete.
