I thought this might be an interesting thread...

This weekend, I learned how to weave paracord from lighthound's website:

http://www.lighthound.com/info/lanyard_weaving.htm

Thank you Lighthound!

We used to make a ton of these things when we had downtime on deployment :xyxgun: ....made some that looked like dollar signs,,,,,and if you cross the cords at an angle while braiding the box style.....its kind of twists its way up....

neat stuff I keep two rolls at home

I don't make them too often anymore, but they are fun.
I and my 6 year old taught his Tiger Den how to make them about a month or so ago. Next time we may try the bracelets.

What's up there ghoStrider? Long time no talk

Hi mut,

whats the name of the second (orange one) knot?
Looks rather interesting ...

Cheers

Ralf,

That looks like the bottom side of an orange paracord bracelet. The pic is showing how he used the loose ends of the bracelet to secure it. Here's a link on how to tie it. I use a variation of the bracelet for a watchband I made this afternoon. The only problem is that it's not adjustable, so it had to be tied/untied/tied again until I had it just like I wanted. Anyone have any ideas on how to make it adjustable?

Thanks for the pics.

Sorry, but I can't say I recognize your handle. From the looks of the way you typed mine you may have me confused with someone else. I have heard of a Strider fan that goes by the name of GhoStrider, but I am not him.

Stormdrane, I have no clue how to make it adjustable, but I found this knot
finaly in my Ashleys Book of Knots (which I highly recommend) in the
Macrame section ... http://tinyurl.com/n4qte

There are other nice ideas for lanyards as well, but I am still at the beginning
of these fancy knots ...

Cheers

Did you knot the sinets with the same cord coming
from the monkeys fist? Or is it an "add on" knot?

Cheers
Ralf
In this case I used an "add on" knot. I thought about using the cord from the Monkey's Fist, but that would have made it more difficult to get the sinnet up tight against the Monkey's Fist.

I tried another watchband using the king cobra stitch and a larger side release buckle. It's still not adjustable, but I think it looks better than the single cobra stitch. I'm thinking of trying it with shockcord and no buckle, but I don't know if the knots will take away the 'stretch' factor of the cord. I also made a couple of paracord bracelets using the cobra and king cobra stitches, and the king cobra is beefier with a more masculine look IMO, and it almost doubled the amount of cord used(about 15.5 feet for an 8" diameter bracelet), so there's that much more available if needed. And a simple lanyard with hangman's noose knots on each end, a lobster clasp on one for attachment to a belt loop and a split ring on the other for a knife or flashlight. The lobster clasp can be clipped back on the cord if wrapped around the wrist for use as a wriststrap.

Holly cow ghostrider,

With a 1" steel ball, you not only have a nice lanyard, but a serious weapon!

Watch ya don't hit yourself with that thing ;)

Dan
It's quite formidable. Since they are knot for me, I don't anticipate a problem.

Stormdrane:

I also think they look better with the King Cobra than just the Cobra. Made a couple for my nieces over the holiday's.

I tied a Knife Lanyard Knot to my cell with shock cord. Don't know if it won't stretch in a Cobra or King, but I imagine it will tighten up every time it stretches. You mignt try using the shock cord for the loop, and the sinnet part make with regular 550.

Another question :)

Is the loop from the sinnet knot or from the Monkeys Fist?

Monkey's Fist.

I ran both working ends from the Monkey's Fist through the sinnet to give it more mass. So there is basically three lengths of 550 surrounded by the sinnet.

You may also be interested to know that the sinnet required about 50" for each length. IOW, the Square Knot used up 100".

Can any of these lanyards be unfurled real quick?
I suppose it depends on what "real quick" means. Some are probably easier to unfurl than others. I will say that if you want one for the reason of having a good amount of cord handy, then you'd probably want one that has a continuous piece, and uses more cord.

King Cobra can take up a lot of cord, and is one continuous piece.

The Corkscrew takes more cord, but is several seperate pieces.
