Hey everyone,

I currently have a dual luxeon flashlight that runs on 3 D cells. It simply has resistors and dims down over time. I am thinking of changing the circuitry, and upgrading the LEDs. I already plan on using the amc7135 boards (700mA each).

I have been looking at some natural white Seoul emitters here:
http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?qs=tAn5ob3kyLKLiGQE4RdM5A==

.. but it says only 61lm. I realize that the natural and warm white variants are not rated as high for lumens, but can still appear very bright.

Since I'm not changing the reflector at all (hence, cree is not an option), would these be an upgrade from the luxeons currently installed?

Also, is there a better source for these as far as price?

Thanks :)

I don't think I will have a problem with heatsinking this one. :whistle:

That 61lm rating is at 350mA, they will produce more at your 700mA level (IIRC thet are rated upto 800mA). They should be close to your Luxeons or even a little better but they are still less than the regular white Seoul P4's.

I have changed a few of my lights to these and love the warmer tint even though I have lost some lumen output over the cooler white SSC P4's.

Mouser is where I got them too and I think the price is very reasonable.

There is not a better U.S. source of which I am aware.....the price is great and the shipping is prompt! Followed by future Mouser catalogues:thumbsup:
If you will be using this light outdoors you will love these (93 CRI)!

Thanks for the input. I am upgrading this light which my mom uses a lot to walk outside. I think the quality of the light is important, that's why the neutral white appeals to me. Looks like I can expect 105lm or so at 700mA, so a total of about 210lm.. not bad I guess. Can't wait to order :)

Anyone know how much Mouser usually charges for shipping? I'm only going to be buying like 2-3 of these, nothing else.

Thanks

also, why do the natural white LEDs have a lower current limit?

The high CRI Seoul is rated at 61 lumens @350mah. If those are Lux3 emitters they are rated at 70 lumens@ 700mah. So the seouls end up being twice as efficent. Data sheets for both are in the links below.

Thanks. It is in fact a Luxeon III I just checked. I guess I can go ahead and order. Here is what it's going into, hopefully it will work without having to modify anything of the existing body or plastic.
