I wouldn't say clickies are inherently unreliable. Lots of LEO's etc use Maglights and Stingers night after night for years on end without too many switch failures as far as I know. It's just that the Kroll clickie sucks.

One of my favorites is the VB-16 scroll switch with the clickie tail cap.
