are there any "premium" drivers for 1aa lights

looking for high quality / reliability / efficiency

not "dx" types

to run off 1 x 1.2/1.5v battery

single mode is fine
2 or 3 mode would be nice

im looking for 15mm max diameter

350 - 500ma output current

do any exist

just out of interest where do the "fenix" class of lights
get there 1AA drivers from

thanks

Alex

Let me know if you find any of these! I can accept 16 mm. I have looked at all the DX drivers (don't touch Kai) and have a similar issue. Can't find any decent drivers...

Lots have "issues" and poor low modes. I just want a basic 3-5 mode high quality circuit in a Fenix ish (16-17mm?) size.

Not sure what you mean by premium. I have modded the Surefile KL1 head with a RV7 / DX 7880 driver and have been very happy with the results. There are about 12 of these mod's out there (some were offered by donn recently). The were all wired single stage.

Any guys with multimode drivers? Perhaps some spare RV7 drivers? L1P is not bad, but it is still single stage. Anyone with a multi-level driver that has a good low mode? The DX 7880 tends to have lousy low modes so I've heard (also, I'm not a fan of 16-20 mode drivers).

the RV7 / DX 7880 driver is ok but i dont really trust it in the long run

when you see all the high end lights the boards just have a quality look to them that the dx ones dont

you can mod the rv7 but then you have to trust your mod

and without the mod the modes are very annoying

miller - ill be sending you a pm but can you tell me what current the l1p sends to the emitter?

thanks

Alex

I know you said no DX drivers, however this driver here is actually very good.

I had to replace the driver in my MTE C3, for some reason the old one went out. This one here looked to be almost the same driver.

My guess is that the copper coil looking thing maybe shorted, or vibrated a connection loose or something like that, so I ended up putting epoxy over this one to keep everything shock proof.

Yeah it has multi-modes, but you can "lock" it into a fairly simple weak/low/med/high that works quite well. The high is probably right around the 800ma it states. It's definitely pulling 1.8A from the one AA Ni-MH that I have in this host.

Definitely too big for a MiniMag host though, you would need a "sandwich" compatible driver like the ones that Sandwich Shoppe sells, though I don't think they have any 1AA voltage range drivers.

Edit: Actually I was wrong, the MadMax "looks" to support a 1AA voltage range, though I would probably check with them first.

I´ve tried three Madmax.
They don´t work with a Seoul or Cree below 1,9 V
(Led Vf approx. 3,25 V) .

Yeah I have a MadMax Plus in a MiniMag, tried it with 1AA Ni-MH w/dummy cell.. It worked, but really dim, not anywhere near the output of the DX 7880 driver.

Not sure what people are looking for in a low, but seems to work well enough for me.
