Just a quick note to fellow Canadians out there.

I came across President's Choice Nimh [pre-charged and ready to use is their slogan] batteries yesterday at the Real Canadian Superstore [Loblaws].

The packaging and batteries themselves say: product of Japan, 2000 mah. They also have the 90%/85% 6 mth./12 mth. charge retention blurb on the package.

The batteries look identical to eneloop, right down to the off white color of the wrapper and size of the battery itself. Cost $12.99 4AA. I'd be hard pressed to find a better deal out there with going rates around $18.00 4/AA for sanyo eneloops, whether in-store or online [including shipping]. Since 'The Source' stopped carrying eneloops last summer, this looks like a good alternative.

Marc.

I saw those too and thought there were rebranded eneloops. I may pick up some but I saw eneloops at Costco that came with C and D cell adaptors. The C and D cell adaptors are basically a plastic frame that takes one AA to use as a C or D cell. Obviously the runtimes will be shorter but having the versatility of the adaprtor could be useful in certain situations.

Costco: $32.99 for 8-AA eneloops, 4 C / 4 D sleeves. That's a great deal, but only if you need the sleeves...say for kids toys, or for your flashlights. Otherwise, president's choice brand would be $26 / 8 AA if you have no use for the sleeves.

Yup, pc brand AAA eneloops [2 pack], pricey...almost 9 bucks I think.

I keep trying to justify buying a membership to get one of the family packs.
Get the membership man. They sell most stuff so much cheaper than other stores. They sell larger quantities of just about everything but if you buy enough stuff there then your savings will more than cover the cost of the membership.

I purchased the eneloop package yesterday from Costco for $28.00 and the package also had 2 AAA eneloops and a battery charger. Did not really need more Eneloops at the this time, but the option of having a back up charger and the C &D sleeves kind of pushed me to spend the money. And of course, more Eneloops are not a bad thing.

$12.99 is still too expensive. Around Christmas Shopper's Drug Mart was selling 4 AA Duraloops (relabeled Eneloops under Duracell name) for $8.88CAD. So I'd wait for a better sale. They do happen.

Wait for one of NCIX's weekly sale. Sometimes 4x AA Eneloops come on sale for $9.99. They sell out quick.

See President's Choice Wiki entry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/President's_Choice

President's Choice (or "PC") is the private label brand of Loblaw Companies Limited, the largest food retailer in Canada. The PC brand includes a wide variety of food, drinks and consumer products, and services, such as President's Choice Financial services. While many store brands (including Loblaw's own value brand no name) provide low-cost versions of brand-name products, many PC products are marketed as being on the same level as "brand name" products, or even, for some food products, as a "premium" or luxury product.

It's a reference to Loblaw's president, not parliament. So the answer is no - it should be "President's Choice".

I visited a couple of Loblaws and found some chargers which had a grey sticker bearing the PC logo visible on the front of the unit through the packaging. It's less a sticker and more of a film, looking like it wouldn't peel off while also being very thin and form-fitting. A little too form-fitting in fact, as the relief of the Sanyo logo it's trying to hide is visible through it.

I didn't need a charger, but I did buy some cells. Posted pics of the cells in another thread that started out being about Sony cells, but this one's more specific and probably easier to find for this particular item.

Little visual reference for anyone interested in the PC batteries:
