I've had this design idea on my computer for some time; I want to make it in Ti one of these days, and since I owe a customer four different Luce de Notte bodies, I thought that this might be a good pattern to include in the group.
Only 'problem' is that the mini-blocs call for a .5mm wide groove in them. So I decided to cut my teeth using aluminum first. The deeper grooves were .75mm deep and cut with an engraving bit; the mini-bloc grooves were cut with a two-flute .5mm diameter ball nose end mill:
As machined finish--final surface quality will be a bit smoother.
Although the customer doesn't want any anodizing, the Ti version would be very nice, in my opinion, if the mini-blocs were anodized, say, emerald green or deep blue.
A good learning experience in AL--I only lost two end mills.
The AL version took many hours to machine--the Ti version will be at least double that.
