Hello,

I'm a photographer and want to buy one of these tactical lights with 123a cells. It have to be focusable, because of my application for it.

I want to be able to throw a bright spot to focus my camera on something outdoors in the dark. But i want to be able to widen and soften the light too, so i can "lightpaint" some objects in front when i'm doing long exposures in the evening or at night.

Wich one of the popular xenon lights (Streamlight, Microfire etc.) have the widest and smoothest flood mode? It has to be incandescent, everything above 4000K is not usable (too blue!).

I hope that some of you lightaholics can help me find my light! :D
Thanks in advance,
jj

None of the focusable reflector lights that I know have a smooth beam on anything but full focus. Everything else has rings and holes in the beam.

For something with focus and a smooth beam, you are looking at an light with a lens or an optic.

There are also LEDs under 4000K but those are hard to find in a stock LED light.

How about a diffuser?

:welcome:

I know. That was the reason for me asking for the most wide/soft of the bunch. I don't expect it to be perfect...

Thx,

I bought a SL Scorpion off eBay. Here in Germany there is not much choice and the price incl. shipping is very good - 51$.

+1 for the Stremlight Scorpion. It's a 2x CR123 light but it's got the softest focisable beam of anything that size. And is fairly rugged too.

You could probably make nice nice diffusing filters out of rubber pipe connectors with screw clamps and various grades of diffusing gels used in the theater industry.

Then i probably made the right choice.
The idea with the rubber pipe is very interesting, i will have to try that out, especially for colored filters.

Thanks folks for all the suggestions,
jj

I do not have this light however I do have several other products made by Wolf-Eyes and they are all very well made. All of my lights from them have a smooth artifact free beam thus I assume this focusing model would be the same. We also get a decent discount with the dealer if you visit the dealer section for the link and information. This light below was one of two choices for me when I bought my last duty light and I went with the Raider simply because I like a fixed beam for a duty light....good luck and check this link
