I don't know if this is the right place to ask this, but since its an LED light, I figure I am close. Has anyone out there replaced the 2AA Rayovac Sportsman Extreme plastic lens with a glass one? UCL, Borofloat, ect? I just put a SSC Seoul P4 in mine and its got great brightness and tint now, but my old lens is all scratched and icky :sick2: I assume that plastic lens is just glued in, would a little heat loosen it up? Thanks for the insights as always.

Not sure how to get the old lens out. I'm looking at mine and don't see how it comes out.

How did you swap the LED? Pop the pill out and mod it or just desolder the old LED and solder in an SSC?

Did you have to isolate the SSC?

I'm not sure how to remove the lens either, I was thinking it just pops out the front, just glued to the reflector edge? I just desoldered the Luxeon emitter and soldered on a new SSC P4 with a little arctic sliver dabbed on the bottom of the emitter and then a little more on each side of the led once I had it in. It sits on an aluminum base that threads into the flashlight body, so I think that's enough heat sinking hopefully. I didn't isolate the bottom of the P4, but it does have a metal plate on it, so in some designs I think it may cause a short if you don't put some sort of insulator on it. I got about 3.5 hours of runtime on a set of Duraloops, and the light seemed just as bright at the end as the beginning, which I thought was darn good, and the light is very bright now, on par with some of my expensive lights. It didn't get hot with extended runtime, just a little warm as you would expect. I am an electrical/modding dummy, but this came out surprisingly good. I plan on putting one of the P4's in a 1W Energizer Luxeon I have.
