Does anyone have any beamshots of a comparison between the quark R5 aa^2 and the quark X aa^2? It says it went from 205 lumen max to 280! I want to see this... I think it is the best all around light there is, and if it is really noticeably brighter, I may have to upgrade! :-) Beamshots?

:)

Sorry no i dont.
I do have the aaX squared and its a great little light (after they repaired it twice)
Very bright.

The Quark X is a good bit brighter, however it's got a much wider hotspot and not as much throw as the R5 version, but it lights up everything in front of you. To the eye, your R5 may appear just as bright or maybe a little bit brighter because of the more concentrated hotspot. :)

Keep in mind that our perception of lumen increases is subject to the square root of the increase. So, for example, you need four times the lumens to appear twice as bright. In this case (280/205)^0.5 = 1.17, or a 17% increase.... that not a lot.

If you already have a Quark AA^2, I don't think it would be worth your while to move to the X for the lumen increase. However, floodier beam, different tint, or pre-flash/reset issues is another matter.

Interesting. I didn't know that. 17% isn't that much, but it isn't bad either ;0 but probably not worth updating yet. As for the rest of the points, I got the perfect neutral tinted r5 and I love it. I know the cool white gives more brightness apparently, but I prefer neutral tints. They sent me both and let me choose which I liked, and the neutral had incredible color rendition vs. the cool white so I went with that. There is pre-flash on mine, but it doesn't really bother me, and I'm not sure if the new one eliminated that anyway?

Same as the R5 but a little wider spill and a huge hot spot, about half the width of the spill, and I would say it probably throws just as far as the R5, at least my 123^2 X does compared to the 123^2 R5.

There have been reports of some X models having pre-flash but mine does not.
