Question about 3AA to 1D adapter in maglite

I have both 2D and 3D Maglite Led's and want to have one cut-down to 1D size to run a 3AA adapter. My question is which magled module will work better with 3AA batteries? Will the brightness be the same as with D size batteries with only a loss in runtime?

All the MagLED modules are designed to work with only the specified number of cells, so you'll need the 3 cell module. Trying to run them with more cells won't get you any brighter light and risks blowing the module. And yes, runtime will be less but the brightness should be the same.

I think you will only lose some runtime in the 3D vs 3AA scenario, due to the size difference.

Remember, 3D's = 4.5 volts
3AA's= 4.5 volts
