I have a Black Diamond Spot Cree headlamp that uses 3 AAA cells. I measured the voltage when the light is on high with fully charged NiMH batteries and I get about 3.7 volts. I am thinking of adding another battery with a switch for extra brightness for about maximum 1 minute intervals. There is no problem to physically add and connect the battery. My question is, with the extra battery, the voltage when the light is on high will be about 4.9 volts. Will the light be damaged by that slightly higher voltage? If I use 3 new AAA Alkaline batteries, the voltage should be about 4.5 volts. So the voltage will be about 0.4 volts higher. Do you think this increase in voltage will damage the light? If anybody has any experience or knowledge with adding extra voltage, and what the possible effects are, please reply to this post.
