Question regarding 3AA to D Adapters

I am going to be using 6 AA batteries in my 3D mag. I will purchase 2 3AA to D adapters.

My question is:
Can I use a third empty adapter as a dummy cell?

The reason I ask is because I can get the adapter cheaper and will only have to place one order instead of two. (I will save on shipping)

You would still have to wire up the inside of the third adapter to make it a dummy cell.

Either use a Mag 2D OR use a 1AA to D adapters in which you connect a wire between the two contacts.
