I just received one of the ARC LS Firsts from Brightguy. The packaging was interesting considering the high dollar light--two little ziplock bags and a wrinkled up sandwich bag. No documentation, no warranty info. Is this normal, or should I have at least received some warranty info?

Thanks!

Sotto,

Darell isn't here for an elloquent response in his role as Mr. Arc Answerman. All the LS product come in special zip lock bags w/o printed matter. The funds required for packaging in fancy clam pack are likely diverted to more important stuff like R & D, lower price on the flashlights themselves and what have you. This is my personal judgement on the matter and I have confirmed with others that the Zip Lock bag, sans printed matter is the standard packaging for these great lights. I rue the day that the selling price of Arc products have to carry the additional burdon of expensive wrapping that goes in the trash.

The Ziplock bag is their tradmark packaging!

I am speaking out of turn for ARC , but they are a smaller company, with a product like the LS still in development, so all their efforts are in the actual product.

Go to their web site for any detailed info on their lights.

Also...isn't the LS still kind of in it's development stage? How many have been sold? Couple thousand?? Yeah...packaging is expensive stuff, whatever way you do it!

I was just coming here to post the same thing. I just opened my box from BrightGuy and saw my two Arc AAA's on nice little cards then saw the Arc LS in Zip lock bags. I also thought it strange that the $25 light was packaged better than the $100 light.

Also my Arc LS is #765 so I am thinking they have not even sold one thousand.

It will be a sad day when the LS's no longer come is ziplock bags - alas it will be a mature product - no longer bleeding edge.

OH come on...look on the bright side... (I mean you are a flashaholic right?) sure it's a pipe dream of ours since Peter says no retail...ever. but the day the Arc LS comes in retail type packaging is the day it's a day closer to retail

Don't look now but I think that darn Backspace key is acting up again, Saaby.

The ziplocks were OK, the lack of any other info (such as warranty, etc) was not quite so OK. However, the light itself is VERY OK.

Thanks.

Who cares what kind of packaging it comes in? Are you going to use the ziploc bag? It's the light that matters.

The packaging and literature is coming folks. Just like the Arc-AAA, the design of the flashlight was first. You guys are on the leading edge of this LED technology.

I have to go with Sotto on this, the packaging is just fine, but for a FIRST, at least print off some pages from the web site, and print up a "in progress" owners manual and print it from MS word.

Maybe a page describing the version revisions.

It would be just fine on regular laser paper.

You could even "brag" that the revisions are happening so quick, it would not be cost effective to re-print a manual every time there is an upgrade made to the light.

As I recall, the ARC AAA series just started being packaged, maybe 3 months ago? I know it wasn't been long. I still haven't found anything useful to do with the packages. Now the zip lock bag.....that's another story.

I love my LS!

The baggie kind of threw me too at first. Mine was well enough protected in a padded envelope, and arrived unmolested.

The lack of documentation could be addressed cost-effectively. Maybe just a little "sticky note" sized piece of paper with a URL printed on it. That URL would then contain the warranty info, care and feeding instructions, etc. in pdf form. Problem solved, and inexpensively. The same URL would of course be linked on Arc's web page, maybe on the LS info page at http://store.yahoo.com/flashlight/arcls.html
Did I mention I love this flashlight?

Too much packaging means more evidence to ditch from the wife.

I still have the warranty/documentation wrapped up, in French, I hear, and with a rubber band, from my new Inova X5T in front of me, don't know what it says.

The proof will be in the pudding.

Where did that come from Saaby? 18th century French cooking?
