Well I finally got around to using my R2 bin leds last night, and WOW!
It was easy to pop the Cree P4 out though the EN plating came out with the rounded star. Guess its good epoxy not the silicone stuff.
I took one R2 WG I got from Endeavors thread in the marketplace and,
a Cree MCPCB 650 from the sandwich shoppe. It needs to have notches cut in the sides so the wires can come up.
Stuck it in the Easybake oven and cooked to a golden brown .
After I mounted the R2 I epoxied the round star with AAE (wish I had silver epoxy) to the light engine, gave it overnight to cure and soldered down the legs. Had a problem with the original neg. and had to replace it. Why can't they use good wire from the start?
Once all was done I took these pics and put a piece of Kapton tape with a hole for the led over the star. Screwed on the head and started blinding my co-workers (they can't catch you if they can't see).
Beamshots in Post #9
Without the black plastic cover over the star I can turn it in tighter and get a better spot. I think the original star was a little thinner than the MCPCB650 so the plastic cover sits higher, I messed it up getting it off so good riddance anyway. Kapton tape looks cool.
Its nasty cold and raining out so beamshots will have to come tomorrow.
Anyone in NYC have an First Gen. MRV I can compare it against? PM me.
