Well I finally got around to using my R2 bin leds last night, and WOW!
It was easy to pop the Cree P4 out though the EN plating came out with the rounded star. Guess its good epoxy not the silicone stuff.

I took one R2 WG I got from Endeavors thread in the marketplace and,
a Cree MCPCB 650 from the sandwich shoppe. It needs to have notches cut in the sides so the wires can come up.

Stuck it in the Easybake oven and cooked to a golden brown ;).
After I mounted the R2 I epoxied the round star with AAE (wish I had silver epoxy) to the light engine, gave it overnight to cure and soldered down the legs. Had a problem with the original neg. and had to replace it. Why can't they use good wire from the start?

Once all was done I took these pics and put a piece of Kapton tape with a hole for the led over the star. Screwed on the head and started blinding my co-workers (they can't catch you if they can't see).

Beamshots in Post #9

Without the black plastic cover over the star I can turn it in tighter and get a better spot. I think the original star was a little thinner than the MCPCB650 so the plastic cover sits higher, I messed it up getting it off so good riddance anyway. Kapton tape looks cool.

Its nasty cold and raining out so beamshots will have to come tomorrow.
Anyone in NYC have an First Gen. MRV I can compare it against? PM me.

Re: R2-bin MRV Upgrade

Well it snowed tonight so beamshots will have to come another night.

Re: R2-bin MRV Upgrade

Awww... you beat me to it.

It looks like you have the newer MRV. Mine is older so I think the improvement I notice should be greater due to the older LED. Can't wait to do this.

I have already used one of the R2s in a g2 drop-in and I love the color tint.

Interested in seeing your beam shots.

I got mine out of MattK's second delivery so it couldn't be much newer. Its firstest gen.
I have the beamshots but I feel lazy so bear with me. And I'm in NYC so they are indoor 50 feet.
I chose the emitter that put out the least light at 3v test, the over preformers are being run at lower milliamps. Like StefanFS said get rid of the black emitter cover and use Kapton for a focusable beam. Your going to love the upgrade. I get a nice 8 foot circle at ~200 feet.

Awesome! Waiting for pictures, unless I get this finished first.

Re: R2-bin MRV Upgrade

Something seems a little odd with your beamshots.

Did the mod change the really tight spot from the MRV? I know with mine stock it has a really tight spot even at 50'. Hmmmmm

I took a Luxmeter reading at 1 meter and got 21,160 LUX!
I was getting 15,000 with the old P4.
Doh! I only took it in Hi mode now I need to get a reading on Low mode.

Sorry I missed this question. And to answer no theres no change just bad beamshots. Check out these 25 foot beamshots. The valve handle is ~10'' dia.

It seems as though you are not locking your camera settings between shots...

Yeah this camera isn't as easy to set as my canon was I'm still getting used to it. Its very automatic.

Only reason I said anything is because someone who doesn't notice that will think that there is very little difference in brightness amongst all the shots. Whereas that is likely not true at all. All the single light shots are good for is tint and beam shape reference.

Ok thanks for the advise, I'll need to find a location that I can shoot multiple lights at once side by side.

Just lock your camera into manual, set up your shots to be well exposed on maximum brightness with your brightest light. then shoot the rest of your shots with those settings unchanged.

My camera is an automatic point and shoot without manual.
I had manual and great macro with my old Canon but it never worked right when I needed it. Theres no apeture or Fstop control just "Shutter Speed" for longer exposures. But everything else is better in this camera.
