Does anyone know if the bulbs for the ultrafire 500 will fit in the G&P scorpian so i can save myself some money? i have had a search but couldnt find anything definitive.

Cheers Josh

Yes it will fit.

However the original G&P bulb has a much rounder and even hotspot than the Ultrafire's, which is distinctly oval in shape. The G&P bulb's colour also appears a little whiter.

IMO I'd pay extra for the G&P bulb.

on the other hand, there seemed to be many more cases of premature failure with the G&P bulb, which goes hand in hand with it being whiter.

I don't think so.

A: more cases of premature failure with the G&P lamp.
B: that lamps driven "whiter" are going to have a shorter life.
C: all of the above.

care to specify which component/s of my statement you are in disagreement with?

I have read many complaints about the R500 lamps instaflashing.
I have now read that a member feels that the G&P lamp may be whiter.
2+2=4

It is very possible that there are an equal number of WF500 lamp failures going on out there that have not been brought to my attention, if this is the case, woops.

The UltraFire 500 bulb would be a better choice in some respects for the G&P Scorpion. Yes it's not as nice a beam and not quite as white, but it should last much longer than the G&P bulb. When I received my UltraFire 500 I tried my spare G&P Scorpion bulb in it, and it instantly flashed.

Of course, its ALWAYS the manufacturer's fault isn't it? Never the end-user...

Perhaps the Ultrafire's bulb is designed with longevity in mind, due to the fact that it can use different cell configurations.

I still prefer the G&P's beam colour and hotspot, and just because of those 2 reasons, I'd never buy another Ultrafire bulb again. I've not had any issues with my G&P bulb blowing up due to a manufacturing defect, and so did thousands of others I'm sure.

It does seem that the G&P lamp is failing more than the Ultrafire one. Both lights are very similar in construction. I wonder if one is being hit with more amperage causing the failures. On one note; DealExtreme now has a Cree drop in for the WF-500

I have both reflectors. They look identical, and will screw into both bezels. The big difference is the Ultrafire bulb screws into the Ultrafire reflector father than the G&P reflector. So if you use the bulb sold from DX for the Ultrafire in a G&P reflector it will not screw in as far, so you are unable to focus it into a tight beam. Hope that makes sense.

Are there any specs on that thing? I assume that a single Cree would run very long on two 18650s, and output would be almost dead flat even without regulation.
