Ran 18650 really low.....should I be worried ?

Hi everyone,

I'm new to rechargeable's and 18650's but I'm learning. I recently bought 2 AW 2900's, and a Pila charger. So far so good. I fully charged the batteries, then put one into my single cell SST-50 2.8A. I wanted to see the battery run time on high, so I left the light on until it went really dim, then it started to blink. btw, the run time was 2 hours 7 minutes.

Now I think I may have damaged the battery, but I'm not sure. Also yes, I know they're protected. I don't have a multi-meter ( going to get one today ) so I didn't check the voltage. I did put the battery into my Pila right away to recharge with no apparent issues.

My question is should I be concerned the battery might be unsafe to use.

If you stopped when the light got dim, there is not anything to be worried about. If the SST-50 light is a direct drive light you have two layers of protection, both the protection in battery and the led itself.

I don't know if it's direct drive or not. I has a reverse clickie with three settings. It seemed to continually dim the longer it was on. It started about 700 lumens, and dropped from there. I do know the light got pretty hot after about ten minutes. You probably don't know this light. It's pretty obscure, and no one seems to know who really made it ( them ) other than a guy named Rudy who goes by the name of QtrHorse, and he's evidently not talking....or even on CPF anymore.

I'm curious if the battery or the light initiated the blinking. My guess is it's build into the light as a safety feature to tell when the battery is approaching shutdown, but I could be wrong.

You'll be fine. The flashing was the low voltage warning in the driver. If you'd gotten low enough to trip the protection on the battery, it would have shut off altogether. Go, be free and enjoy.

Is that the stainless steel light? It's has a AMC7135 driver.
Yes it's basically direct drive at lower voltage levels.

Yes, it's built with non magnetic stainless steel. I wish I knew who make it. It's very utilitarian, and seems to be made well.

btw, it has a NANJG driver with the stars, but not sure which exact one. Maybe that will help me in unraveling the mystery of the light.

those drop out of high-mode and flash when the battery drops below 3.5V. if that's when you stopped and took it out you'll be fine :)
