I have the light engine with a Q5. The current LED is an R2, which I believe is not much brighter. Is there an upcoming revision that will be much brighter?

Otherwise, what LED could I put in myself that would be brighter or more efficient? I have a new High CRI Seoul. Would that be good? And is it easy enough to remove the old LED or should I buy a new board?

Thanks,

I don't think the high-CRI Seoul will be any brighter (probably less bright) than your Q5 or R2. I have a spare board, and am going to try an XP-G R4 with known good tint which I expect to be a bit brighter (and more efficient) than my Q5, but all bets are off on focus until I try it. That said, I'm a fan of high-CRI light, so I'd do the Seoul anyway, even if slightly less bright than the existing emitter...

I'd buy a new blank board or two for mod attempts rather than possibly wrecking your existing light engines, but that is just me.

Sounds like a good idea. Please let me know how your mod turns out.

The hi-CRI LEDs currently on the market can't handle the kind of wattage the Raw uses. You would need stronger resistors on the driver board before it would be safe to use.

I was about to thank you for saving me me from burning out my high CRI LED. Did you delete your comment because you determined that it actually is safe to put that LED in the Raw?

Are a new light engine and reflector the only things needed to upgrade a Ti-K2 to the latest version?

Yes, that's all you need to change. Also, you no longer need the copper heatsink spacer between the board and reflector, since the Cree is now cooled via coupling at the front to the reflector collar.

As for those trying to fit Seoul LEDs, do you know if they are compatible with the reflector's collar? If not, the lack of thermal coupling could very quickly see your LED go :poof:
