Anyone have any experience with Rayovac's latest version of their universal charger?

There is no information on the packaging about charge times and the manual isn't available on their sites yet.

Although I have a Maha C9000 and a Maha C800S, I do have a need for something like this for my C & D cells for times when I am unable to use my C9000 frankencharger setup.

First time I have ever seen that charger. Saw some new version of Rayovac rechargeables and noticed that no mah rating was listed anywhere on the battery or on the package. Seems like Rayovac has stopped giving out specs on their products. Won't buy them unless it's stated on the package for batteries or at least online for their chargers.

I just saw that one at Fry's a week ago. It'll be a month before I'm in the area of a Fry's again, but can check the specs when I'm there.

I contacted Rayovac and they sent me a copy of the manual.

It's a 2 channel, 4 bay charger that can only charge cells in pairs, and only charges NiMh cells.

I'll keep looking.

I received one of these chargers for Christmas from my in-laws, so I'll provide some feedback on it.

The technical info I was looking for originally was on the bottom of the charger, obscured by the packaging.

It's no speed demon and does not conform to the NiMh rules as laid out on battery university (0.3C or higher).
It works as a straightforward solution for my C & D cells when I don't feel like setting my C9000 frankencharger or am unable to do so (and buying a Maha C808M is not an option).

Other than the slow charging times, the only issue I can see with this charger is that, according to the manual, the LEDs do not turn off after the charge is complete

If that is in fact true, you have to watch the clock based on the info provided in the manual, and unplug the charger when the time passes.

I've got a set of AAA cells from our solar lights charging in it right now, so I'll see what happens later today with regards to the LEDs.

I've been pleased with the RadioShack 23-428 (specs below) which I bought ONSALE for $29.99 w/TWO FREE RS 4500mAh NiMH D cells a few years back to replace my Rayovac PS3 "Cooker". Also, my inventory of D cells was growing from the Energizer ~2000mAh sub-Cs to the RS 4500mAh to some Vinic 6000mAh so a Charge Rate of 2500mA (RS) was MUCH better than 500mA (ROV).

Oddest specs I've seen yet (you'll see when you view the PDF) - 5000/2, 4000/3, 2000/4 instead of just printing 2500, 1333, or 500mA. It also 'Conditions' / Discharges @ 500mA. (Haven't measured the cutoff voltage yet.)

Unfortunately, it *FINALLY* appears to have been discontinued - online at least (I 'think' I saw it a few months ago) - GOOGLE has no cache page and it's too painful to try 'The Wayback Machine' on this old P266 laptop (I already have 36 Tabs open in Firefox!).

GOOGLing for: "23-428" site:radioshack.com

brings up 8 hits, some including the last $32.99 price (was regularly $49.99 when I bought it). You might find one still in a store though.

Care to share the details? :poke: :)

Well, since you asked nicely with the pokey stick :D

Cell must be charged in pairs, that's what the 2/4 and 1/2 (9V only) refers to.

Code:
D: 2/4 x 2.8VDC 560mA
C: 2/4 x 2.8VDC 440mA
AA: 2/4 x 2.8VDC 260mA
AAA: 2/4 x 2.8VDC 120mA
9V: 1/2 x 9.0VDC 14mA

Well, since you asked nicely with the pokey stick :D
Here's my 'logic' for the :poke: aka 'pokey stick':
  1. Anyone have any experience with Rayovac's latest version of their universal charger?

There is no information on the packaging about charge times and the manual isn't available on their sites yet...
  2. There are no specs or useful information on the packaging...that's why I'm asking if anyone has any experience with it.
  3. I contacted Rayovac and they sent me a copy of the manual.

It's a 2 channel, 4 bay charger that can only charge cells in pairs, and only charges NiMh cells.

    I'll keep looking.
  4. I received one of these chargers for Christmas from my in-laws, so I'll provide some feedback on it.

And your FINAL ANSWER is???

SO, from *MY* point of view, you kept 'promising' us some DATA, and then, when you finally *HAD* the data available to you, you didn't post it!?! :ohgeez:. I'm assuming that you CERTAINLY are aware of my 'interest' in "Charger Specifications" (TTA's NiMH/NiCD Battery Charger Specifications Thread), eh*? (*Assumed an acknowledged CANADIAN expression from my past television viewing experiences ;) 2 brothers - HOW MANY *YEARS* ago was that show? )

P.S. I truncated some of your posts just to save bandwidth / HDD space, while still attempting to convey the 'general idea'. :)

P.P.S. Thanks! :D
