I have a Barbolight U9 and would like to know

Rechargeable "C" cells can provide "way" more than 1 amp rather easily, and don't have as much voltage sag under load.

Alkaline cells (primary cells) are lucky to give you 1/2 amp, or slightly more, so the output should be lower (I would expect it to be fairly ovbious if doing a side-by-side comparison).

As to the "how many lumens", you would need an integrating sphere, and you would have to run the light with fresh rechargeables and then fresh alkaline cells to know. Otherwise is just a guess as to the lumen difference.

The only other alternative would be to do a far easier lux measurement with a light meter/sensor, which would give you a difference in the intensity of the beam over a small area, but again, you would have to run the light with both cells to get an idea of the output difference.

I have had the U9 for years now and am concerned also about the battery stick replacement if i can use
3 C- Cell rechargables.
I was also told that the U9 can be used out of the water and this helps for general use especially when the power goes out
on a stormy evening and not be concerned with the amount of water that the light come in contact with.

Thank You Sir for the impressive information and photographs of your modification!
My compliments to you for your skills at Modifiying the Barbolight.
Your work is outstanding and the photography of it as well.
Your efforts with this project im sure is well appreciated by the Dive community and the members of this forum and certainly deserves recognition.
I can assure you i will be thinking about this modification for a long time and it enhances my Dive light obsession.
I have several dive lights that i prefer to use as an option for out of water use when needed and recently purchased a Tektite Expedition LS4 that
can be used out of water and recommend one for those who consider waterproof lights for multipurpose use, especially during power outages.
Again my compliments to your modifications and please let me know if you have one for sale.

It appears that replacing the 4500 NiMH baterry stick with 3 C-Cell rechargables will affect the performance of the U9.
I read on the forum that the lights are no longer produced.

If the OEM battery stick is going out due to usage/age, just go ahead and use the 3 C cell rechargeable and don't worry about it. It will work fine, assuming the overall length is close enough.
