Newly Enlightened
I bought a new version MAG 3D with Rebel reflector and emmitter for my SST-50 Mod.
After removing the switch assy which I won't be using in my build, I considered where I could put to use.
I used an old 2d host and fitted it with the new 3D LED assy. I used the old style reflector. you have to remove the old style cam. Then remove the cam screw and LED pill. Then drill a new cam hole 90 degrees from cam slot. Drill the new cam hole as close to end of plastic as possible. Stretch the LED pill spring and re install at a higher fixed position.
On 2D alkaline it produced a smaller / dimmer (but still white) beam. Pill does not appear to have any boost capability. Pill was marked "U3"
I sleeved 3 C sized alkalines and modified the spring to seat inside the cap (de anodize required) and 3 alkalines returned the beam to its as purchased beam intensity.
Then I thought 2x18650. Some quick math inticated 3x1.5 = 4.5volts 2 x 4 = 8 volts. But hey why not give it a go? I sleeved the 18650's and turned on the light.
I received a bright beam for 1/4 sec and
.
I returned to lower voltages to check for life  but my led was dead :sick2:.
