Im trying to think of an AA led light for my grandma. One that she can keep in her purse or next to nightstand.
I want it to be simple, too many options for brightness and she wont understand. She doesnt need 190 lumens either.

80 would be just fine, at most a low and a high.
I like clickie lights better, but possible she would be fine with a simple twisty.
Dont want it too expensive but dont want it to be dealextreme cheap.

I wish batteryjunction still had the LM33 or was it LM31... the AA version.

I find it's best to stay with 1 mode lights when it comes to elderly people and people with absolutely NO flashaholic tendencies. I like the fenix E20 since it works great on alkalines, I feel that's a must with flashlights for non-flashaholics.

I gave a L1T to my dad, and he just leaves it on full output all the time anyway. Same with the L2D's I have given away, they never use any mode but max. Or if I untwist the head for them, then they always use low. I don't think they can even tell the difference. They just don't care as long as they push the button, and out comes light.

Yep, my Dad is not elderly nor is my much younger wife, but neither of them want to mess around with anything but "click" it's on and "click" it's off.

I suggest you stick with something simple for granny. <edit: added the following> FWIW, my wife has been very happy with the Energizer Hard Case 2xAA I got her for Christmas, while my Dad insists on hanging onto that ancient Brinkmann mini-mag incan clone. <end edit>

I like L1T and RiverRock 1WW (that may not be bright enough for you).

Something even simplier like Propoly might be appropriate.

She might even like the Streamlight MicroStream. The older folks I've given that to are thrilled with it.

Good luck

One of those big colorful green Icon 1XAA lights should do the trick!

Big enough for older hands to manipulate.
Huge button thats easy for someone with arthritis to use.
2 dead simple modes
Simple battery changes since only the head twists off.
Has a good mix of flood and throw.

Another vote for the Fenix L1T V2, I have given several of these for gifts now and they are excellent lights for none flashaholics.

Another vote to the L1T V2.

My mother used a L1P before she died. I like single stage for older adults who are easily confused by most electronics.

I got the L1T V2 for my mother-in-law to be. If she can remember how to use both settings, then she has two levels. If she can't, she still has a light that will come on every time she pushes the button. Personally, I wish the L1T had a bigger spread in low and high, but it this case, it's great. Ether level produces adequate light for most non flashaholics.

The L1T sucks on alkalines. So you will have to buy lithiums for granny. I doubt she wants to play with nimh cells and charger. And there is no point in having 2 modes. She will only use one of them anyway. :P

I think you can get the 1 X AA Ultrafire C3 from Dealextreme.com for about $11.

I recently gave to my father (who is 68 years old) an Eagletac P100A2.

The light is priced at about USD40, and the UI is really simple. He uses the light with NiMH's, and according to his comments, the light is great.

In my opinion, this light has an excellent performance/price ratio.

I'd like to cast another vote for the Icon 1xAA. Looks like it would be a good light. Bright enough to see into dark spaces (judging by the output, I don't own one), and as mentioned before, huge button to easily turn on if she has arthritis. I think it would be pretty hard to misplace a lime green one, tho... This is real nice of you.

Consider the new NiteCore EZAA when they're finally available. She probably won't need the high, but it's there in a pinch. My elderly uncle and mother-in-law both easily manage the old Dorcy AAA twisties I gave them a few years ago, and like them. Actually, granny might prefer something smaller and dimmer like a Fenix E01 to sit by her bedside, unless she needs a back door burner.

I too am surprised at the similarity of the Ultrafire C3 Q5 6 mode DX light for $22 to my Fenix LD20.

I'd suggest the stainless steel version of the C3 -- its extra heft gives it a good "feel" for those who know nothing about the electronics inside.

the clickies are horrible in the c3 ss.

2aa might be more usable for granny hands.
rayovac 2xaa(aka nuwaii something)..either 1watt or 3watt version from
kmart/walmart you can find both luxeon and rebel versions if you look.
the rebel has the most beautiful warm beam of any brick and mortar
light i've ever seen. and it works fine with alkalines.
