Recommend rechargeable LED light

I need a light that has a good mixture of throw and spill for daily use, about 60 minutes a day. This light will be used for night time out door usage in rural areas (ie, no street lights around).

Since it's going to be daily usage, I want one that is rechargeable via a cradle, I don't want to have to swap batteries out all the time.

The Pelican 7060 LAPD light looks decent, but my guess is that it uses older LED technology since the output isn't that high.

This will also be used in temperatures as low as -10, so I think NiCAD technology is out, probably need to stick with NiMH or Li-Ion.

Thanks for any thoughts.

My brightest lights lately have been the Pelican 7060 and the Tiablo A8 Q5. Both are great lights, but for what you are looking for, I do not think you can go wrong with the 7060. McGizmo did a lumen estimate of 170+ for the light. It has an very bright spill and better throw than a D-mini. It has a larger hotspot than a Tiablo/MRV etc, but is a tougher light as well. I would really check one out.

Just curious... what older technology? It uses a cree led, and a lithium battery, with a decently deep reflector. I think that's pretty current anyway.

There are many many choices if you would do the extra work of swapping batteries. There are plenty of reasonably priced 18650 lights (U2 clones) which will fit the bill. My experience is that those 'charge in the cradle' type lights do not last very long before either the battery or the charger go wrong.

I also recommend the 7060. And its lifetime warranty. And the plastic it's made from doesn't feel as cold as a metal light would.

back40, welcome to CPF. Spend some time and look around these halls. There are alot of information as well as pictures of what you seek.

Actually, the 7060 uses the newer Cree LED, just not the very latest Cree.

If you don't need the light to be too tough(or need a cradle charger), then you could something that will also suit, your task for $45 total. The WF-600 with 18650 batteries and a charger.

Out of the cradle charging LED lights, the Pelican 7060 is the brightest, furthest throwing single LED solution.

:welcome:

Everyone,

Thanks for the great responses! I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the WF 600.

How do I ensure I get the 18650 only model from DX?

It looks like it'll go about 120 minutes on the 2200 batteries, since there's 2400 batteries now, I can probably get 3 nights of light out of 1 battery.

I think I'll upgrade to the WF-139 charge though.

Tempted to get a WF 800 as well...

:welcome:, that is a good choice with that kind of budget, you can't go wrong. Good luck and look around, you will find that suit your needs.

I think the newer lights are all 18650 versions, don't know though. If it is not, you would loose a bit of throw but gain runtime.

The mA rating on the cheaper batteries aren't accurate, the are all around the same capacity.
