hi,
Im trying to find a flashlight that will last me a long time. Im looking for a small, reasonably lightweight and as bright as possible flashlight without a silly battery life with a max budget of £70.
I was going to order the Fenix TK11 R2 but thought i would ask you guys your opinion. Are there any considerably better flashlights i have missed at this price range??

thanks for your help

Nice idea, but sadly it's pounds-for-dollars over here regardless of the exchange rate, so I doubt if we're going to see any LX2's for less than 160 quid, and even that might be a while :( .

ELDRAW: For small, reasonably lightweight and as bright as possible your best bet would be the Nitecore lights: the Extreme is one of the brightest single-cell lights and runs on CR123 batteries. If you prefer AA cells then the D10 is a very popular and versatile light, although not quite as bright on max. Both are within your budget.

Eldraw, what is your preferred battery type?

:welcome:

Thank you for the recommendations so far. I dont really mind what battery type as long as its rechargeable, if i was to get the Fenix TK11 i will purchase rechargeable 18650 from ebay.

I would HIGHLY suggest that you NOT buy your rechargeables from ebay. Lots and lots and lots of garbage for sale out there.. For best performance and safety, buy quality batteries from a known reputable source. Check out the Flashlight Electronics forum for extensive discussions of rechageable lithium batteries and their potential dangers if not properly treated.

Welcome to CPF, ELDRAW.

I agree with Yucca Patrol - please DON'T buy ANY type of batteries from eBay, whether rechargeable nor disposable. eBay is fine for lots of things, but most definitely NOT for batteries.

If you are looking at lights from the USA or elsewhere outside the UK, your 70 UK£ will probably mean a light for 70 US$, once you factor in shipping and maybe getting zapped by UK Customs.

Don't rule out getting a used light from the MarketPlace - CPFers look after their lights very well and you can get some excellent deals.

The Eagletac T100C2 is a great light less expensive and I prefer it over my Fenix Tk11 R2. The Eagletac 18650 are good as well.

Nice pick I think those are suppose to ship tomorrow it seems. I want one myself.

Eagletacs are available in the UK if you are worried about customs issues
http://www.flashaholics.co.uk/eagletac.html
but the prices are not as good as buying directly from the US.

Tip for dealing with Customs fees: Although I've been lucky enough never to have been stung by such fees, that doesn't mean it can't happen. I regularly put away a little cash to build up a 'war chest' for Customs fees on the assumption that it will happen someday. Should the worst case scenario occur, I have enough (or almost enough) money to recover my goods. I'd hate to be in a position to finally run out of luck and have my goods held in limbo while I have to run around borrowing money to bail my stuff out of 'jail'.

If you do decide to import from overseas, to give you an idea,
I recently had a torch send over from the US. The declared value
was $100, I was charged £25 in taxes plus handling charge :(

Thanks guys but ill be ordering form the UK

Ill also be getting two battery's and charger from these guys, a total of about £101 but i think it will be worth it.

I appreciate all your help

You can get those batteries and charger direct from AW for £28 including delivery. Last time I ordered from him it only took 3 days. Superb service.

Great, what is AW? Have you got a link?

cheers

That's odd, I just got a new penknife from the US, declared value
was $100, I was charged £9 VAT [taxes] plus £8 handling charge from the post office?
That was after customs openned and inspected the box and declared it safe and legal.

+1 on that, got a mint EX10, 1xpocket clip, 1xRCR123 cell AND a charger for $55

Nitecore D10 w/ D10 pocket clip and CPF8 discount code from a certain popular "numerical" titled website for $65.32 shipped. This is under your budget, and an excelent light that will run off of anything you feed it for the most part. Also consider the EagleTac P10A for about the same price, although I feel the D10 is of slightly better quality (Also look into the CR123 versions of both of these lights). Whatever you choose, stick with a reputable manufacturer and chances are you won't be dissapointed :).
