Anyone on here do reflector hole enlargement? thinking of buying a few Litho reflectors and need them opened up for Osram bulbs

yea i thought of that, i just didnt want to take the chance of destroying it, if you know what i mean:mecry:

I just wonder if thats the only way to go about doing it or someone with a lathe could prob do a much cleaner job?

I'm pretty sure if you can seat it correctly on a drill press a step drill bit shouldn't be too difficullt:thinking:
Ouch!

It would be better if you had a set of reamers to gently shave off a bit at a time, a drill, even a gradual step might end up grabbing or messing up the coating (but who has a set of expensive reamers)

I've never tried it but I asked the same question and was discouraged by many, including IIRC MrArtillary.

I'm gonna follow this thread since I need the same thing.

I ordered some reflectors from KaiDomain.com over a week ago and have recieved no confirmation of my purchase, no response to many inquiries, I'm thinking it is dollars lost and I'm not expecting to see them in the mail.

Yea youre right i did discourage it, thats why i dont want to risk it, the KD reflectors are pretty good though (if they'll send them to you). :(

I was just looking to do a couple more Osram builds and was going to do something a little different, go with a enlarged opening to about 13mm instead of the 15.

I was mainly just curious if anyone on here did it and was good at it

I was thinking about reaming out a FM Deep reflector I have for a 100 watt bulb, but, I'm sorried about the proximity of the hot bulb to the reflector surface. The KD reflectors probably are safer because they would not surround the bulb so closely.. I realize the bulb might lose alot of efficiency in this design, but it's a fairly bright bulb and I think a deep 2" would still provide decent throw and a decent beam profile in a slim light.

I wish FM still made the older style cam/camless dropin's with nice square heat sinking on the outside. I think he probably stopped for business sake since he now sells complete reflector screw-ons from 2" to 3" and that cheaper product would compete with these new designs.

I have opened up a few reflectors on a 20+ year old junk bench top drill press. The reflector is held in a vise and I use an Irwin Unibit #4.
