The grade school I went to also had a mimeograph machine. Which they also used with purple ink. Dunno why when black would have been nicer. It was on a metal rolling cabinet and I remember seeing the jug of ink in the base of it. I assume why they never used different colors was it would have been a major job cleaning all the ink out.

It would be an interesting project to mimeograph a multi color flyer by having several of the machines, each loaded with different ink. Run the sheets through all of them in CMYK series.

I found an incredibly valuable piece of machinery once and took it home, knowing I could probably make a lot of money by selling it.

My dad told me it was in excellent condition and that he'd had a lot of experience with them!

Then he told me it was called a mimeograph and that they were no longer in use. :(
