On clearance at Target for $4.18 -
There is also another version - at the same price - in a smoother outline - sort of a peanut shape, slightly bigger.
Size comparison -
This is pretty small - the body tube is actually quite thick as the light holds 3x button cells according to the package they're S736S - but the batteries that came in the light were marked 392. There is also a black version.
Heads -
This shaped version comes with a focussing/collimating lens - the peanut shaped one has a reflector.
The light is a twisty head ala MiniMag style - but the light does not change focus to any noticable degree.
First impression was that this little sucker's bright!
vs. gen 3 Dorcy 1AAA spot light
in real life the RR keychain seems noticably brighter and the tint seems a nice warmish white - whereas the Dorcy always seems to have a brownish tint.
vs. gen2 Dorcy 1AAA (normal reflector)
again the spot of this RR keychain seems in real life to be brighter than the hotspot of the Dorcy - but obviously the Dorcy 1AAA has a much wider-angle and generally more useful beam.
vs. classic ArcAAA - circa 2003
again the beamshots don't show it but the RR keychain's spot is definitely brighter than the hotspot of the ArcAAA
The RR keychain also throws noticably a lot better than any of the lights compared so far - for typical indoor distances - up to say 12 feet or so.
I was so impressed I had to compare it to a 1/2watt -
vs Nuwai 0.5w 1AAA (TM-310H)
The Nuwai is brighter - but the RR keychain throws as well - at leats in the typical indoors distances..... pretty impressive.
Negatives - well, lots of people don't like spot lights - I bought this quite deliberately over the reflector version (the peanut shape) - just because I wanted to play with another spot type light. But didn't expect it to be quite as intense.
It might be just a bit too bright (is there such a thing? ) for my types of hand-held close tasks - where I find the gen3 Dorcy 1AAA spot actually quite suitable, but not that generally useful.
So overall - an impressive little thing - I don't know how much those replacement little batteries are - it is defintitely not generally useful as a pocket light as the intense hotspot and lack of side-spill concentrates the light losing all peripherial vision. Definitely noticed in a blacked out room - but it is useful for illuminating relatively precisely - especially when there is some ambient light. Might be useful so as not to disturb others - but it is a bit too bright(!) to go unnoticed........
