New guy here. Just learning the ropes.

I just ordered a universal Malkoff lamp. I would like to run 6 AA batteries in a 2D cell maglite. I see the Black Bear lights use a carrier tray to do this. I can not find these trays on the net.

Are there any that are a direct replacement for the D batteries, as in, no wiring or soldering? Just drop the 6AA pack into the light and turn it on?

I will use my own charger, so I do not need a pack that charges in place. I do not mind removing the batteries from the carrier.

The "Rolls Royce" carrier, aptly name because it IS the Rolls Royce of battery carriers, is known here as an FM battery adapter, FM standing for Fivemega, fellow CPFer and it's creator. I've never seen the ones TigerhawkT3 linked to, but they appear to be less expensive copies of the FM carriers.

They are not really copies, they are totally different.

I think the real advantage of the FM holder is that you can charge them without removing the cells very easily.

Fivemega does the best job for the most battery sizes, the only battery carrier which I consider in the same "Rolls Royce" leage is the recent 18650 design that Modamag did here. It does not have the built in charger, but it does have a clever "L" shaped moveable terminal for series/parallel switchups.

mdocod's is a no-nonsense, practical holder, that I'm sure works great....but it's not a Rolls Royce in aesthetics (or pricetag) !
