I have an old 3D maglite with an LED upgrade bulb I bought from Walmart that is also a Maglite brand. I was going to change out the bulb for something better since this light is not nearly as powerful as my HD Husky 2D tactical. But then I got to thinking, if it has a long run time it might be good to leave it that way for power outages when I need a really long run time. Anyone know what the run time would be?

Look at this review.

From the runtime graph is appears you get about 20 hours of runtime before it starts dimming (besides the initial drop as it heats). You hit 25% output around 28 hours in.

Here is a link to a Flashlightreviews.com test of the different LED bulbs.
There is one graph for a 3D Mag to 50% output.
Right below it shows the drop in output for the first two hours and farther down is a graph with all the tests combined, including a 3D standard bulb.

The Maglite LED modules are thermally regulated so output will drop as the module heats up. Once they stabilize output holds steady.
It looks like the 3D LED levels off after 20 minutes and should stay close to that level for about 20 hours.

It should make a good power outage light. The one graph shows it putting out over 20% light at 38 hours.

 Stereodude, ya got the drop on me! Now I'm just :dedhorse:

The 3d magLED is my go-to choice for extended power outages. It lets me conserve the high output stuff for when it's really needed, and there's not much to do during a power outage that a MagLED can't illuminate well enough.

A runtime graph for the 3D Maglite with Maglite LED drop in was just posted by member BigWaffles here.

"... 35hrs to 50% with a total of 51.5hrs of usable light ..."

I have a 4d magled that I use for the same purpose.

It's less bright than a Malkoff Mag but has greater runtime, too.

Don't hear very much about Malkoff module for Mags?

You know whatever data You find on sources in the net, is a guess at best, that could differ with +/- 50% to Your parts.

The only sure way is to know Your cells and charger and to hook an amperemeter between batts and light to check the current draw of Your setup.
