Almost a month after receiving this charger, this is the first time I'm using it though I couldn't get the PC to recognise it as I plan to post a graph of it charging AW's protected CR123.

Nevertheless here's a picture of it charging the battery with a home-made charging cradle.

Terry,

You have a real good piece of equipment there

I just bought this BTS unit for charging my batteries ( an industrial rack mount system used by LiIon/NiMH manufacturers, full rack consisted of 10 units ). Full manual control for charging all battery chemistries from coin cells to xx650 sizes ( up to 5V, 3A per channel ).

 Wow!! How much???

Hi Andrew, your equipment looks great, must have cost a bomb, when will your next visit be. :) Greg will be here on the 17th.

Sad to say, Schulze charger is a good piece of equipment, but I can't get the software to work. Can only watch the LCD screen on the charger for info only, was hoping to be able to post the logged files here if I can get the software to work.

Tom has been a great help, but his version of the software is different from mine which is version 2.0.0.12 so I will either email Schulze or seach in the RC Group if there is anyone using this nextGeneration Charger.

Cheers,
Terry

jefft,
Luxbright,

The single unit I bought is quite reasonable for USD400. I just love the things it can do ( grading / matching cells, measuring internal resistance, efficiency measurement, cycle life testing - up to 9999 cycles, CC/CV input value from 1mA to 3A/ 0.001V to 4.999V ). It even comes with attachments for charging/testing different shapes/sizes cells. I may still get one of your Schulze as well.

AW

PS : Lucky Greg. I wish I can visit again this Christmas :)

Terry,

How have you liked the Shulze 6.30-5 by now?

I've been holding off buying one of these for a few reasons:
1) I've already got a bunch of chargers (but none of this quality)
2) I'm a Mac user - I think the software is PC/DOS only. :(
3) Not sure how user-friendly this thing can be!
4) I want to get high quality cradles to match it, and the Voltcraft cradles seem to be the best - however, hard to find in the US!

Thanks for the photos!

Hi John,

Love the Schulze, being using it for charging my AW's rechargable CR123s, CR2s and my unprotected 2x LG 18650s (ROP) in parallel (and in series with a different cradle) effortlessly. Much faster than my Triton 1.

My opinion is that its very user friendly.

Just to quote one user in the RCGroup forum:

Two hours later and I am starting to feel happy and comfortable with my new machine. This charger tells you everything except tomorrow's winning lottery numbers.
It displays the internal battery resistance (+ leads and connectors), amps and V. in and out, total power used from the power source (it also returns power to the source on discharge).
It has a nice graphing screen with time and voltage of the connected pack.
Cell type and quantity, etc, etc.

It's neat to see my name and phone# every time I power it up.

My only complaint... the instructions could be clearer on using the balancing feature. The only info is on proper wiring, nothing on use.
End of early and limited amature review.

I like it. Get yourself a Schulze.

As for the charging cradle this is how I had mine done with gold-plated screws (to prevent oxidation) as per picture:

Chargingcradlecopy.jpg

This was modified from a project box, which have slots on the inside wall so that I can adjust the brass contact plate (negative contact plate) to suit the type of battery/ies I am charging.

I also purchased the more expensive insulated crocodile clips (to prevent shorts) for the charging cables (14AWG silicone cable).

As for MAC compatability software you can email Schulze to find out. They provide an USB driver (serial to USB cable) for the "plus" version" for MAC OS,
I believe that they should have a software for MAC.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Terry

Anders, Thank You, will take a look.

Downloaded the lastest version of the Akkusoft software for the firmware upgrade but firmware was not found.

nah .... my older 6-330 d Schultz already does everything I want it to do. but I do admire new gear!!!!

if you haven't already done so... make a quality charging clamp. instructions in my sig...

Hi cy, I already have the charging clamp in your sig.. the one you see in post #9 was my lastest for parallel charging for two batteries using the insulated alligator clips.

cooool... enjoy your Schultz!

a tip Silver gave me was how to revive dead cells. when cell won't take a charge, change settings to .1C

most times cell will revive after a few minutes at .1C
if voltage raises up higher than normal low range. then raise current to 1C for rest of charge.
