Seeking advice on Aleph 1.

Hey all,

I am so happy to have an Aleph 1 to complement my Fire~Fly II. This thing is fricken sweet!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/buttrock.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gifMcGizmo It's a 3w with a Downboy 700 on a 2x123 body. I have a couple of questions regarding this light:

-What are the approximate lumens/lux/candlepower and runtime that this puts out? I found some old graphs that put it at about 2-2.5 hours.

-How many batteries can this setup handle? From what I've read it can go up to 3x123 and 4x123, is this correct? Would it function with 1x123 or 2xAA (does it go into direct drive with these)? What bodies would work? From the pictures, it doesn't look like Balrog's bodies are compatible?

-Have you used the belt-tab and belt-clip? How do you feel about this setup?

Here you can find the answer to your first question,(T= 67.2 to 87.4 lumens)and here you can find the answer to your second question. As to your third question, in the past all of the McLux heads have been compatible with the SF e series bodies. That does include balrogs bodies.

Absolutely and thanks! It's amazing what a difference in bin makes in light output according to the chart. And also how versatile the Downboy 700 is. 3-16 volts, that's quite a range! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/buttrock.gif

Actually Down Boy is 6-12 volts

Actually the down boy will work in regulation from Vf of LED + a little overhead on up to 16 volts. Below Vf of LED, you will be in DirectDrive but little demand is placed by the converter; it just shuts down and lets the LED grab juice direct from the battery. At least this is my understanding. I mark my builds with 6-12V for convenience and in regards primarily to nx123 configurations. Sorry for my aid in the confusion! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

OK,
I'll go first! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I like the belt tab because I can swivel the light forward while still on the belt and either access the tail switch for momentary or rotate the head for constant low level and further depression for momentary high or further rotation for constant high. I can also clip the belt clip to my shirt pocket or shirt collar for hands free if needed. When I get in my van or retire for the evening, I can transfer the light from the belt clip to a dash or wall mount where I know the light will be.

With the light carried on the belt clip, you can really develope a fast draw and shoot from the hip with amazing accuracy! I don't think there is a quicker method of shedding light on the subject!

Now such a method of carry might seem to be in keeping with sporting a pen protector but I wouldn't know! Huh huh (on inhale /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nana.gif ) Actually, the people who *have* asked what that was always seemed impressed after finding out (some used to think the McLux was pepper spray). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif
