Selling Automatic Knife Question???

Several years back I purchased a Benchmade Auto knife. As it has sat in a drawer untouched for about 8 years I was thinking this might be the time to sell it and recover my 'investment'.

My main concern is the legality of selling such a knife. In a transaction such as this, am I the seller, obligated to make sure that the person purchasing the knife is active military or law enforcement, or can I just take the buyers word for it?

Any thoughts on this matter would be appreciated.

Thanks to everyone who has pm'd me about this knife. Unfortunately, it is already sold!

Since most states allow ownership, person to person sales are not an issue. Most laws are against carry. Just like when selling a gun, a person does not have the legal obligations that a commercial enterprise has.

I believe there is an issue with mailing accross state lines, though I don't recall any prosecutions in that area.

BTW, I make no pretension of being one of expertise in the law (CYA, yah know).

One other thing; you may NOT ship automatic knives via USPS. When shipping use a carrier other than the USPS. FedEx Ground, DHL, UPS, just don't use USPS. It probably wouldn't be a problem unless your package was destroyed revealing the contents... Good luck with your sale.
