So I'm looking for a Terralux upgrade for my 3D Mag and was wondering, which would be better to run if I want brightness moreso than runtime? I noticed the Terralux 6EXB comes with either the SSC or the K2. Which is the newer one? Which one would give a warmer tint and a smoother beam? Thanks in advance.

If you want warm then the flipp chip if for you, i just got the inova T1 and its very warm almost as much as incan, its VERY close

Wow, is the K2 that warm where it's almost incan yellow? Hmm...maybe I'll go with the SSC then. Would you happen to know which is brighter?

The SSCP4 version would probably be a tiny bit brighter. Also, the hotspot with an SSCP4 is not as sharp was a Luxeon in a Mag reflector and therefore produces what many consider a more useful beam.

I can tell you at least in my versions that the SSCP4 is at least twice as bright.

The K2 (at least my sample) was a huge disappointment. When I get home I'll compare it to the OEM incan bulb. Even my girlfriend said..wow thats weak!

That was the case for the old K2 version, but Terralux is now using the new K2 TFFC chip which is spec'ed to max out at 200 lumens. The original K2 maxed out at around 130 lumens...of course the Terralux dropins aren't pushing them that hard due to heat issues. So that's why I said the SSCP4 is just a tiny bit brighter, but also has a better ouput beam with the Mag reflector (in my opinion).

Click the link in my signature to see how warm the Flipp chip is. I held it up against my Mag 4D, and it's not incan yellow, but it is definitely creamy. IMO, the tint is fantastic, and it should provide better light in fog and rain than a typical snowy LED. The K2 also seems to be much higher quality. It will probably not be quite as bright, but it may be more reliable. GL!

Yeah, I got a few of the TV0E bin Luxeon K2 TFFC emitters from Photofanatic back a couple months ago (the ones that got recalled unfortunately). I really like the tint...to naked eye, they appear white. When you have it side by side with a cool or neutral tint Cree or SSC, it looks noticeably warmer...but yeah I would say like a vanilla white. I agree that cool white LED tints are horrible in outdoor bad weather usage and that's why I prefer the warmer tints these days. I think it's funny how many LED lovers will find the warmer tints "too warm", when in actuality are vanilla or creamy white. To those who really dislike the yellow colored light you get with incans, warm tinted LEDs are comparably MUCH MORE white and I think those who prefer the cool white LED tints forget that.

But anyway, I still think the SSCP4 emitter works better in a Mag reflector than Luxeon I, III or K2. Anyone who's used a Luxeon in a Mag knows what a "pencil sharp" hotspot you get with them...which most find useless for short and medium range purposes. With an SSCP4 emitter in a Mag reflector you still get a tight hotspot, but not as sharp as a Luxeon...so it is a little bit better for short and medium range use along with still having killer throw.

Hmm...I'm second guessing my decision to go with the SSC after looking at your T1 review  I love the outdoor shot of the K2! The color rendition looks true-to-life in your pic. Now I really have to rethink this one. I would love the wider, smoother beam of the SSC, but the color of the K2 is awesome.

Beam or color, that is the question?

Trust me get a K2 , you wont be dissapointed...Now if you are planing to use it on a smooth reflector you will notice the beam has weird artifacts, like a star shine kinda thing. The SSC works great with smooth reflector since the marvelous distribution of phospor in the chip. But for brightness and warm tint go K2. Its a shame of the recall or I would have converted more than 2 of my lights. And the k2 can take more than 1 amp of current and won't go angry blue like the SSC.

Keep in mind that we're talking about the Terralux dropin here and it is nowhere near pushing 1 amp to the emitter. Trust me Cuso as I there with you on warm tints. I recently bought the Tri-emitter K2 TFFC Terralux and the tint on the emitters are cool white and not the warmer ones that Photonfanatic sold in a group buy here. I'm not sure which tint SSCP4 Terralux uses, but the neutral white SW0 tint of the SSCP4 is fairly prevalent these days so I would venture to guess that is what Terralux is using. Compared to the SX0 tint, the SW0 is actually not bad and warmer than than SX0. The highly touted Malkoff Devices Mag dropin strictly uses an SW0 tinted SSCP4 emitter and I was told by Gene Malkoff that he is sticking with that until he sees some "actual improvement" with Luxeons. The Malkoff Devices Dropin is heavily heatsinked and runs the emitter at 1 amp, so it is very bright and not to mention a high quality product (but it costs more than twice the price of the Terralux).
