The more I think about it the more I would like to pick one up. I'm probably going to call them later this afternoon to see if they have anything instock. I'm probably going to go with a 140 lumen Narrow beam, Executive behavior. Any tips, tricks, upgrades I should know about?

I have the 170Cn and think you'll like it a lot.

The light is designed to work well with rechargeables, so it would be worth picking up a couple of AW RCR 123s and a PILA charger if you don't already have them.

The Surefire filters and diffusers (F04 / F05 etc.) are also a good fit. The F04 will give you a nice floody beam, and I find the F05 red filter handy for astronomy.

I don't know if there are any upgrades or new versions in the offing - a 320 lumen XP-G based beastie would be nice, but as always if you keep waiting for the latest updates you'll never buy anything. In any case, should you ever feel like upgrading later on, you won't have a problem selling it.

Beyond that, you'll have great fun programming it and wishing your other lights had such a flexible UI.

There is that 9 part thread you could read. I just picked up an early EDC 120 on the MP because it was a great price. It really though is very redundant in my collection, but might be good for a mod later. It does tail stand solid. I'm still waiting for something really interesting (and no problems) to get an RaLights Clicky that is significantly different and more useful to me than the NovaTacs.

Since SHOT there are rumors of new Twisty and new Clicky, so If I were you I'd wait. Maybe there will at least be an XP-G R5 coming to the Clicky if nothing else more exciting.

Just for completeness I have 2 RA Twisty, I like them.

ra lights are the toughest lights available, but any clicky can fail

afaik the twisty is more reliable.

if you buy an ra you are doing so because you want an bomb proof light

might as well get a bomb proof switch (twisty) with it.

if and when i find an ra twisty with a 18650 body,

used in the marketplace,

KDOG3,

I have had for a little while now the Ra EDC Exec' and the Ra Twisty 85Tr. I really like both of the lights a lot. I use them each day and have had zero problems with mine. Great feel in the hand, very well built, great UI. I'm awaiting the opportunity to add more..........;)

I really like my Ra Twisty and would recommend it to anyone. Get one and you enjoy it for a long time. It's a "can't miss" decision.

Whoa. Anymore info on this?

I've been EDC'ing a Clicky w/high CRI emitter for a few months, and I'm happy with it. I think it's the only production light available with a high CRI emitter at the moment.

If you don't care about CRI, I'd definitely go with the narrow beam. It's not that narrow, and is still more than floody enough for indoor use, but is much better for outdoor use than the wider beam.

Something to consider if you customize it is the tailcap. I thought I would like the tactical tailcap but I finally miss the opportunity to use it as a candle since it does'nt tailstand. The raised button is also very easy to accidentally turn on in your pocket.

+1 on that combo. I have an early Ra Clicky Serial 5595 which has the 140 lumen 'narrow beam' Osram emitter with executive programming. It really is a great combo. The throw of the narrow beam model is great for a 1CR123 light with a usable spill also. I say go for it.

I haven't heard anything about a new Ra Clicky. I have heard that a new Twisty is in the works with an improved switch that doesn't rely on 'U' wires for activation. I have been there and done that with the Twisty and for me, the Clicky activation is a lot easy to use and makes programming easier too.

My EDC is a Ra Clicky 170. I bought the tactical version because I like the color and the push button. However, I've changed the operation from the "tactical" to more of an "executive." It is nice to be able to program the torch the way I want it. I have it programmed for general use, but if I'm going on a backpacking trip, for example, I can program it with runtime in mind.

The narrow beam is nice; it reaches out better than my old Ultimate. I carry it with the F04 diffuser attached to create a nice, general purpose flood, and I can just slip it off if I ever need to reach out. I really like this set-up.

I'd highly recommend this light in whatever configuration you like best.

My only suggestion is to hurry up and order one! Amazing lights, IMO the best EDC light made.

Well I just ordered one.... 140 Lumen narrow beam, executive. Can't wait to get my mitts on it....

Congrats on a great choice!

Your first thought upon opening the package will be "Well heck, it's just a solid chunk of metal!?!" Then you'll turn it on and aaahhhhh...... :twothumbs

Congratulations on your new purchase. Just remember to go through the owners' manual carefully and take your time with the programming. Getting the customisation mode active can be a little tricky at first but once it's active, it will remain that way until you deactive it. I would suggest to activate the customisation mode and keep it active until you settle on your preferred set up. (I always have mine active, I'm still changing settings after 10 months of ownership)!!

The Clicky is a light that grows on you. It doesn't have the pretty, over styled body tubes of the chinese lights but it is entirely functional and robust. That glass lens is around 3mm thick!! The bezel actually screws onto an internal stainless tube that in turn sits within the outer aluminium tube! Most lights have a hard, stainless steel bezel ring screw directly onto the soft al body - not the Ra Clicky!!

Stuff like that really impresses me!! The Ra Clicky is totally over engineered but in a good way.

Let us know what you think!!

Welcome to the club!!!

James.....:)

It will ruin you for all other lights.

LOL. I hope not! Gotta see what the Malkoff M61 does to decide if I want to throw that in a "big" light like a C3-HA.

Unfortunately, there was a problem with my paypal transaction so I have to re-order it in the morning. Oh well. Still can't wait to get it....

Or at least make you more demanding! I have many other lights I carry everyday, but there is just something about my Ra lights that makes me incapable of selling them!

Re: Seriously thinking of picking up a Ra clicky...any thoughts before I take the plu

Placed the order again. Now the agonizing wait begins. Last time I talked to him he said he had all the parts right there so hopefully it won't take the two weeks to build like the site says. It would be great if he had already put it together and it shipped today but that would be dreaming. LOL

Re: Seriously thinking of picking up a Ra clicky...any thoughts before I take the plu

Congrats. Although I have only had m Ra170 for a couple weeks, I could not be happier.
