I am thinking of getting a G2 LED to use on over night fishing trips. I am drawn to the yellow color I guess (a lot of my night gear I buy yellow, if possible). I have seen references to both 65 and 80 lumen models. I assume the 80 is the current version. What worthwhile (simple) modifications can I do to this light to make it perform better . By better I mean increasing output not at the expense of run time (more efficient). Can you list the ultimate do it your self mod for a novice along with what IYO would be the best value mod? If there really is not any mods available to make it worth while and keep the light practical please let me know.

*I now believe the 65 is an incandescent which I forgot they make.

The best upgrade option I know of is the Malkoff M60L. Check it out.

It may be costly but you'll find none better... 140+ lumens for over 4 hrs regulated output with a great beam. High quality workmanship, made in USA and great customer service.

FWIW, the M60 (235+ lumens) will also work well but can cause heat related issues if used for more than 15 minutes at a time in the Nitrolon light.
(copied from website... Operating the unit for more than 15 continuous minutes in plastic lights may cause damage to the drop-in module. This is not an issue in metal lights.)

I suggest getting the 30 dollar Incan G2 and the M60L/4 hour or M60LL/8 hour module for runtime. Until my surefire C2 gets here I'm using the M60 235 lumen model in my yellow G2, works fine but I haven't used it for more than 5 minutes at a time for fear of damaging it.

Just so you know, the module in the stock G2L (80 lumen LED model) is a light geared for runtime over output and is designed to prevent heat from damaging the LED. If you want higher output, it will likely be at the expense of runtime until a more efficient batch of LEDs pops up.

65 lumen is probably the incan version.

80 lumen is the LED version(G2L).

The main problem with a high power LED in a polymer light is that polymer does not transfer heat well and the LED could overheat if it is driven at a high enough current.

The Malkoff M60L would probably be the brightest drop-in I would run without too much worry in a G2.

I have four G2's (one black, three yellow). All have the M60LL Malkoff. Tons of runtime, near perfect color temp & beam shape. For your purpose, 80 lumens ought to be plenty.

Just checked Malkoff Devices dot com, both the M60L and the M60LL are in stock:thumbsup:
