Has anyone done a mod on the KL6 yet? I did a search and saw that CM had done one with the XR-E. Was wondering if the SSC P4 would be better?

TIA

The Cree is a tight fit, since you need to flip the heatsink over or else use a platform of the right height. Either way, the focused Cree is very close to the reflector, leaving not much room to attach the wires. Fortunately, the back of the reflector is anodized and will not short.

The Luxeon III is a drop-in mount for the KL6, so the SSC will fit if you use a shim to raise the emitter to the same focal height as a Luxeon III. Fortunately again, the heatsink is anodized, so the infamous positive slug won't have a shorting risk.

The SSC P4 is easy to put in on the flipside of the anodized heatsink. I did this a few months back but am not totally thrilled by the beam pattern. It is hard to photograph but has a small hotspot inside a larger "warmspot" that tails off into pretty good spill.
I would try the SSC in the reflector by hand first to get a good idea of the pattern to see if it is to your liking first.
Upside of the mod: runs on one 18650 for a reasonable time.
