Is anybody familiar with the SF U2 cell body, or more specifically the press fit ring?

A friend asked me to bore the body to accept a 18650 cell...However...I do not wish to render the light unusable.

I was informed the U2 will not function if this ring is removed :sigh:

It appears that I could bore up to the ring from head side, and perhaps remove half of the length of the ring, while leaving it in place (the 18650 cell would have to be loaded from the head side). Is this a possibility?

Out of all the U2 bodies I have (4).
2 are normal CR123 bodies no press fit anything.
1 is a Leef 18650 and has a smooth bore throughout no rings or anything.
1 is an OLD 2 flat 2 round SF body that has a slimmer ring .25" long that is sized for CR123's but does no fit a 18650 past.

Just make sure there is plenty of meat where the tailcap meets. Not a bad idea to leave a ring there if you can fit it, but there is no press fit ring that is necessary that I know of.

+1

Take measurements before boring to find the thinnest section of the wall, possibly the threads but more likely the O-ring groove. I don't know how much thickness needs to be maintained, but would guess at least 1.5 mm or a bit more. Probably someone here has done that & has a better feel.

It is such an awful feeling when the last boring pass is being made & the one part becomes two :faint:
