I had a 3D Maglite I wanted to get better use from. So I followed "Scout 24's" advice and ordered the 280 Lumen Firefly LED Bulb from Adventure Sport Flashlights for $16. This is the best upgrade of an incandescent Maglite for the money you can possibly do. The difference was literally like nite and day. The light output is 3 to 4 times brighter, it is a much better white light and being an LED it will have much longer run time. It is a true drop in bulb. No modifying the reflector or the Collar. It comes with its own collar. Every Incandescent Maglite should have this upgrade...Thanks,mjac

:twothumbs Nice!

Well, it is not a high end, high output upgrade, but it is nice. Very happy. Someone actually sold something that lived up to all of the claims. Now that is nice, for a change.

Sounds like a way more useable light!
Thanks,
I had not heard of that drop in.

You are exactly right. Makes all the difference in the world. Don't have any second thoughts, best MagLite upgrade for the money that exists, simplists too. Just look up the Website for "Adventure Sport Flaslights" and it is right there under Maglite Upgrades. You do have to pay $3.50 shipping though...mjac

Do they only work with maglites?

I assume it would work, but the light would have to have the same screw in collar that Maglite has. I don't know if that screw in collar is unique to Maglite or other flashlights have it too. The LED Bulb from Adventure Sport Flashlights screws on to the build receiver with its own built in collar which is the same as the Maglite's. If you have a screw in collar, you have to find out if it is the same size as the Maglite's. You can EMail Adventure Sport to check...Thanks,mjac

Any idea what the temp is on the XP-G2 led? Does it have any nasty blue or green in beam? AS doesn't indicate on his website. Thanks for recommending.

I have no idea what the temperature would be. You could shoot Adventure Sport an EMail. They have been very responsive to me and informative. The 280 Lumen Firefly LED is supposed to have pretty descent heat sink. You can check that with them too. They are pretty straight forward.

The light beam is pure white. That is one of the great advantages...Thanks,mjac

In fairness, I was one of several people who mentioned Adventuresport's upgrades. I may have vouched for him as a long time member, but plenty of good suggestions were made. :) I hope you enjoy your upgraded Mag, and the continuing Flashaholic journey!

But you were the first to respond at all and got the ball rolling which led to other suggestions like the Malkoff. Due to that Maglite upgrade, I have a flashlight now.

This sounds cool. I will try this upgrade for my uncle's old Maglite.

You will not regret it. Tell Adventure Sport you heard about them on Candlelight Forums. He gets a kick out of that.

I've been wanting to upgrade an old maglight for awhile now.

Thanks for the heads up!!!

Jim

Alright, I will call them for sure. I'll come over to my uncle's garage this weekend to help him install the new brake kit, rims and rack on his current truck project.

Ummm...Candlelight Forums?
Lol there must be a forum where members use "candlelight" word frequently.

I agree about the Adventure Sport Firefly upgrade for Maglite. I've got the Firefly upgrade on my 2D Maglite (with lithium battery and spacer inside) and it is fantastic.

It's not super powered or anything, but it totally transforms a Maglite, and its UI is super simple (like me). I may have to buy another, Mr. VOB!
