Too many options now. I can't find a simple high powered flashlight that is simply On and OFF. Rechargeable would be nice. Heeeelp! Thank you

Take a look at this. It has multiple modes that a side switch changes. But once you settle on one, the tail switch is all you need to use to turn on and off. It also will fit a 18350 to double the run time. It has usb charging. I've set my to high and use it as a house light.

required size, fuel type, available budget, beam type ( floody? throwy? ) and intended use would help us immensly.

also your definition of "high power" would help us help you as well :)

Several Streamlight models can be programmed for on/off operation. They have to be programmed the first time, but the its easy and the instructions are clear. The Polytac and Protac 2L-X can be used with rechargeable 18650s. Not too expensive either.

+1 on the Polytac X with 10 tap programming. Set it up for High only, and it'll run on 18650, 16650, 2x123 primaries, 1x16340 or 18350 with a dummy cell. 600 lumens is sufficient for most things, not long ago nothing fit in your pocket and made that amount of light unless one of the modders here worked their wizardry on it and we did ok... Elzetta, Malkoff, Surefire if you're wanting to spend a few more bucks.

their are some options im not with the current times with what the best option for ya, ill let the experts give you those (kinda interested to see what's said and if I've missed much) but very much agree with your core desire / frustration. i need on (when i need light ) and off when i ....might need light later (i.e. need the pixies still in that tank when i need it) so hard to find basic option anything these days. don't need sos strobe or 5 brightness's, nor do i need heated seats 6 disc stereos 20 buttons on my steering wheel.

There was a thread a few years back asking what features users would like with Brand Q's newest lineups.
We joked "open my garage door, turn on the house lights" etc.

But the ten tap system is an easy to use feature where a Streamlight product is set at the factory a typical high/strobe/low. Half press 9x and full press #10 and it advances to high only. A third option for some is 9x and hold #10 again and it then will change to low/ medium/ high or in some cases lo/hi.
A word of caution is do not 10 tap over a shiney table or floor as you'll see spots for a while. I learned that the hard way.

1-mode P60 light that'll take 2x cr123 or an 18650
..like this in neutral tint (around $55 shipped)

Without a budget, I'll join the Malkoff chorus. :)

The MDC SHO is a compact 1xCR123 option that only has one mode. The MD2 is a medium-ish 1x18650 or 2xCR123 option that also only has one mode (or two, if you install the hi/lo switch in the head).

I have an MD2 and another variation of the MDC (16650 body, but three modes), and they're fantastic lights in every way.

I don't usually jump on many bandwagons, but I'll happily jump on the SL Ten Tap bandwagon. Any SL that otherwise meets your criteria which also incorporates Ten Tap should be (very) high on your short list of lights to consider. This includes many / most ProTac and PolyTac models. Many of those will not include 'in-light' recharging (but will come with SL's 18650 for outboard USB recharging), but will offer plenty of other benefits to offset that - not the least of which is SL's quality / reliability, arguably unmatched U.S. distributor support (if you happen to be in the U.S.), and great value for the price.

One which has both Ten Tap and also in-light recharging (USB) is the 'Protac HL USB. Here's the main product page for that one, from which you can open the 'Documentation' section to access the 'Data Sheet' and 'Fact Sheet' for more detail. At ~ $100 USD it's a bit more expensive than many of the others, but might give you everything you need including the in-light recharging. If you can live without that feature, you can probably meet your other needs for less. The PolyTac X (for example) can be had for about half that, with several ProTacs falling in between.

I like the thrunite tt20
Simply On and OFF tail switch, Rechargeable
Side switch to activate the stepless dimming.
Like two light in one.
Come in five color.

Most of the new maglites will operate this way. They have multiple modes, but click on/off is usually function number one.
Check out the Clearance area on the maglite website. They had some single mode D and C cell krypton's in there. Might be some other single mode AA stuff left too. All convertible to LED.

I like how we keep discussing what is the best single mode light without knowing OP wants or him even being present in this discussion :D
