This is a reversible solution for those that hate 3 x AAA. These AAA are expensive to buy and 1 x 17500 is almost equivalent to it in term of Voltage and length.

Get your UV torch here http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1300

1. Obtain a cardboard cylinder or make one yourself.
2. Cut into correct length with a sharp knife.
3. Cut through the cylinder longitudinally to trim off excess perimeter so it could fit into the torch.
4. The 17500 is almost the same length as the 3 x AAA battery holder.

Fire it up :) and you will smile all the way to the bank.

An 18500 would fit better and would give you twice the capacity of a 14500.

I never thought the 18500 existed. Thank you for sharing. I bought 2 of the 17500s for my Inova T5, thinking that I could replace the 3 x CR123 with 2 of these. It won't fit into the Inova. Now I have found some use for it.

For those that does not already have the 17500, the 18500 is obviously a better option.

Looking again at your photos, what you have there is an AW 17500, not a 14500. I don't know the Inova T5, but if it is 17500s you have been trying to use in it and they are too fat to fit in, the light must have a very tight tolerance indeed, however you should be able to get 2 x 14500 in there.

Meanwhile, you can use your 17500 for your DX light as you have described (assuming the 3 x AAA were in series).

To give you an idea of comparative power, Li-Ion cells nominal capacities are: 14500 = 750mAh; 17500 = 1,100mAh; 18500 = 1,500mAh.
