So...I'm not the only one that prefers a flashlight over a pocket knife after all. I've had a passion for flashlights ever since I was a kid playing with my fathers Maglite. And ever since then I've preferred carrying a flashlight over a pocket knife. I stumbled across this board over a year ago and decided to come back to share my passion. Thanks for having me

:welcome:
I don't leave home without at least one of both Jetbeam Jet-1 Pro and SOG Flash II)and usually 2 of each (Fenix E01 or IlluminaTi and Case 3 blade given to me by my uncle)! You gotta have a back-up, never know when you will have a dead batt or switch fail, etc!

I often carry both but my lights definitely get more use.
And of course here in Australia, carrying a light isn't illegal... yet.

It will take one idiot clubbing someone to death with a 6D and then it will be all over. We'll have to go underground, or start our own political party.

Welcome!

Yeah, I carry both as well. Usually a Kershaw OD-2 and either a D-10 R2 (original) or a Clicky 140E.

Uhm, I carry two knives (a SAK and a smallish fixed blade) and two lights (Ra and QMini 123)

Asking me to choose which I love more is like asking me to choose which of my kids I love the best.

(Its my daughter...)

I work where you can't carry a knife. I find I use one of my lights way more often than I would ever reach for a pocket knife.

I typically carry a couple flashlights, knives, and guns on a daily basis. However, when overseas or in other in non-permissive environments I am happy enough with just a good flashlight like a Quark 123 or AA2 and no knife.

It serves double duty as a light and impact weapon as well as being relatively unobtrusive and legal.

However, I see no reason to not carry at least a small pocketknife or Leatherman Micra in addition to a light on a normal, permissive, day to day basis. Both come in handy a lot!

Dennis.

I carry a flashlight when I need one. No EDCing a light for me. I do however carry a knife almost everywhere I go. I generally don't leave home with out my Benchmade PIKA II.

At least you cant cut yourself with a flashlight, only blind yourself when you look into the beam. I usually carry a Quark 123-2 with or w/o a Vitronox basic pocket knife.
I agree with traderdell...i use my light much more than my knife.

After reading all your post I've decided to pair my EDC Surefire Backup with a Kershaw Black Out. Is anyone familiar with this knife?

Kershaw makes some very good products, I was very tempted to get one the other day.

For the last 4 years, I was only carrying a flashlight of some sort as my larger EDCs. I've got the nice assortment of keytools, fauxtons, and USB keys on my keychain. But recently I've decided to add a CRKT Peck to my belt loop. Mainly like it because I don't do heavy duty cutting (I'll grab another knife if I will be), and it's .9 ounces. Still don't know if I want to move up to anything bigger like my CRKT Mini Zilla or something like a Kershaw or a Boker.

I'm another that's been carrying a small multi-tool, folder, or SAK since long before adding a light. Won't go out without both, and sometimes two of each now.

Geoff

I always carry a light, a multi-tool, and a folding knife. I think I'm gonna get a kershaw blur tanto soon (better steel than the standard version).
