I'm surprised to hear the SF L1 described as "small" or "itty bitty", because one of the things I dislike about it is its huge size (for a 1-cell torch). It's almost as big the the SF U2, both being too big for every day carry for me.
I do like small, variable-output lights. I EDC an Orb Raw and a Photon Freedom. I like all the other stuff as well - build quality, brightness, simple UI, water-proofness, long battery life. I generall prefer flood to throw, because I usually need to illuminate things close to me.
