I have heard that the Solarforce L1200 burns through bulbs at an alarming rate. Is this true? If so why? Just fancied buying one of these for kicks would I be wasting my hard earned cash?

Just a normal result of a bulb being overdriven just to produce maximum brightness at the expense of durability. Much like the G&P500 and WF-500 6v lamps being overdriven at 7.4v-8.4v.

Is there any brighter bulb that would fit L1200? Something that would run on 3x IMR 18650 or 4x IMR 18500?

I never tried it when I had my L1200 incan, but if it fits the WA1185 there is no reason it shouldn't fit the Fivemega 1909. Well, the reflector opening might need to be bigger:popcorn:

I know it's an old thread. How does one go about desoldering the bulb. On mine the bulbs pins are in the holes in the brass assembly. No solder at least on the surface. I could just try to pull it out but it's still good and don't want to damage it

Wait till it flashes :)
