I've soldered to batteries before, but not CR123s.

I'm thinking only as much heat as necessary and wearing safety glasses.

Doable or bone-headed? Please cast your vote.

the safest way would be to solder your wires to some small rare earth magnets and pop those on the battery, they are strong enough to prevent being yanked off accidentally, and you can replace the batteries after you've exhausted them.

I've soldered 22-26 gauge wires on 2mm^3 gold plated rare earths, they appear to be the best magnets to solder with, just don't let it overheat as it will cling to certain irons:shakehead

Thanks, guys. It was more of a time issue as it needed to get done today and I don't have time to order anything.

Gave it a try and didn't kill myself. :twothumbs

Wires are holding fine. Actually did 4 of them.
