I hope Don (McGizmo) doesn't get upset for me posting this but I know that he has spent a lot of time and energy addressing questions here on his forum and most particularly in private e:mails and pm's here and I thought it might be really helpful to him (his time constraints) if people that are seeking information about his lights, mods, etc, attempt to do some simple searches on this forum to find the information that they seek. A lot of the info is readily available or easy to find and I know that it would help him a great deal. I believe that the time he spends answering a lot of repetitive questions detracts from the time he can spend building light engines, etc. I know that Don is more than happy to answer any and all questions about his lights , I am just offering this as a suggestion to better serve his customers.

Thanks Keith! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

For starters, I just received a SF light from a John C. along with a Vital Gear 1x123 power pak and no note?!?! I just spent 45 minutes to no avail searching through E-mails in hopes of finding what these parts are all about?

If John reads this, please send me an E-mail and refresh my memory!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif

I do try to give reasonable answers to all of the E-mail I receive and it takes typically a couple hours a day to answer them. I don't type fast and when I am repeating myself, it certainly is frustrating from my point of reference! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

keith, will do. As a potential McGizmo owner I hope it is okay to post questions to this forum for anyone to answer, not necessarily Don.

Don has donated all kinds of things for auction, but this is the first I've heard where we can actually OWN Don. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif I'm in! I have a collar and leash that should fit him perfectly!

That'd be kinda cool - having your own flashlight maker. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nana.gif Of course, doesn't he have a wife who'd object to your leashing her hubby?

doing searches here, custom modified and the review sections are good places to start. Members are pretty good about answering questions as well. I think it would be quite daunting to have to respond to massive amounts of e:mails to respond to basically the same questions over and over again. I know that Don is happy to do it, but I also know that it cuts into his build times dramatically and that is why I made this post to begin with. There is a huge amount of info out there to be found and I often found it a lot of fun and a rewarding way of uncovering information.

Hmm..., seems to fit right in with his apparent affinity for fancy shod women with whips. He does call himself McLeash, ya know.

For basic McLux and McLux-Aleph questions feel free to contact me instead of the master himself ... if I am too dumb for your question we would disturb His Highness then /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif ...

Maybe a FAQ-sticky would be appropriate ... but on the other hand the ordering-info is pretty clear, so it might not change anything at all ... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

How easy (or hard...) would it be to change the resistance from let's say 15 ohms to 60 omhs myself without having to buy a different tailcap? Would it be possible at all?

scuba,
I answered your question in the other thread you aske this in.

And guys, lets face it, I'm helpless! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Okay folks! Rec'd light mid week nicely bundled up safely in a express box.....opened it up.....to find this small (more on this later) light.Black, completely sterile (as in no markings whatsoever....attn:Spec Ops guys on this forum!!! this is a must for many operators behind the lines as their equiptment manufacturers will tip off their foe if found or caught or Gawd forbid you drop it where you are not supposed to be and need to E&E the hell out of there pronto)Many a Military provider must make available a certain number of thier products w/o markings or Ads emblazoned on their product for this very reason and many have lost contracts because they failed to do so...Berretta,you were warned..but your M9 sucked anyways so I'm glad you bonered.

but alas, I get ahead of my self....you all want to know what Don sent me,right? I will...in time....but this is MY thread and you gotta play my game...I'm going to detail this light as best as a non technical yet tactical guy can w/o telling you what it is.Lets have some fun!

First off let me thank Don for first trusting me with this light..sure.I gave him my Govt bonifides, name addy and phone number..but still..I am who I am. A Newbie and not worthy of such outstanding customer service by Don and his Company.Don will not be getting this Light back but will be getting $200.00 this week. This is one of those things you cant let go of...I'm a gadget guy like most men are akin to be,I own more knives, lights,Holsters, patches(I collect em and give them to buddys),hats,t shirts from odd places and even odder Units I have had the honor of working/training with, etc etc then I should.Guilty as charged.

Now back to what I believe to be the finest EDC light I have ever seen. Its light is a BRIGHT WHITE...Brighter white then commercial grade white stock paper used in printing as I'm doing some print work and my graphics guy tested it for shits and grins....it has a two stage press on protected tail cap.Press lightly and you get a soft emission and press just a bit harder and here comes the sun! It is only a 3V 1 cell light yet destroyed my SF 6Z Combat light with Shock bezel and a P-61 bulb(brand new bulb that came the same day as this light from Don,btw...all lights were tested with new batteries from surefire)it carried the day pitted up against every 2 cell 3V 123 battery lights I own including a brand new SF Exec Defender E2D,Brinkman fatboy.

having never played with led lights outside of the ones I have on my keychain I was Amazed at the pure white light.Fact is, if you've never done it..it really brings home the evolution of light that LED brings home.ALL other lights I tested against this New Light from Don emit a very bright, yet now discovered yellow colored hazy light.

Now, keep in mind the light sent is much smaller then any 6V light tested against.just a smidgen taller then a standard pack of smokes. I wont get technical here, but it is right around the 3.60 inches area while in the 'off' mode. What does this mean to a guy who wants an EDC Custom light that gets "Whoas and Wowsies" from Special Ops/Detectives/Cops/SWAT and SAR team guys I run with, not to mention the gun guys at turners who stock all of Surefire lights? It means plenty. These guys are not used to seeing the new stuff as most of them carry issued gear, self bought stuff that they see others carrying known to be good kit.

Back to the light, it is metal of course,Very Sturdy, both tail cap and lens are protected/recessed in a way as to protect as best as possible damage or accidental ON while in your pocket.(even in its cool sideways FBI model sheath for my 6Z, I cant tell you how many times I have cursed the powers that be because for some unk reasons the light was on..pressed up against my Safariland 6004 Tactical drop leg,in my back pocket,in my briefcase against lord knows what I put in that thing as the phone rings and I'm off to the races...as they are not protected as the Exec Defenders are now. That being said, this light isnt a clothing eater like many knives and lights are.I carry a light and Knife everywhere I go.....day and nite.SOP for me.The Firearm I have is always near as well but I live in the OC on the water....shorts mostly and jeans....I dont dig ankle holsters cuz they are a pain and and yet to be perfected IMO,and I'm no fan of 9mm or .38's...when I need a gun it's going to be me and my .45's 1911.(Don, I took some great pics of your light with my Digital Nikon Camera next to alot of my gear...I went from the other lights I own against the back/Front of a tactical LAPD Vest to a NAVSPECWAR Assualt Flotation Vest...next to Current issued Gadgets.knives, guns, holsters etc, etc.waiting on the wife to perfect my images and I will email you them and if allowed, can post them here or somewhere else.

Okay...more to follow, just what did Don Send me?keep in mind an American Quarter coin is the same diameter as this light at its widest(Tail cap and head being equal)...and one more hint...on the tail cap, well recessed into a finely checkered section, is a light emitting insert I suppose is there for knuckleheads like me who tend to drop things at night and need to find it)

So....just what light did Don send me that so impressed me that I would send him 200 bucks for it and cause me to end my search for my EDC Light and forego my search for an ARC light? Oh, dont worry..Surefire will continue to see my business as I must have one of those M Model devastor whachamacallits and several other lights....because I am who I am.I like this stuff.
All the best.the Winner gets a tactical unit patch/or lapel/Tie pin badge from my collection.

Thanks! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to post that here. It was a mistake and I should have deleted it. Wrong thread.

I'm concerned that if the barrage of emails continue to add to Don's impossible schedule we will end up being the losers in the long run. I'm trying to think up ways to reduce this additional burden and will post if I come up with anything.

5 watt, that is.

I already asked that a few weeks ago - the NextGen will NOT be able to handle the 5W's voltage requirements, at least not on the 1x123 tubes. Not sure if they'd do it on the 2x123 tubes - for that you'll probably need a BB, or maybe a DB.
