Re: First Annual Don's Christmas Raffle

Since this would be the best chance for me to get a real McGizmo I have to be in on it.

If it happens I'd like #3.

Re: First Annual Don's Christmas Raffle

I'd participate, but raffles are illegal in the state of Hawaii.

Re: First Annual Don's Christmas Raffle

FYI - from rules and the like...

http://www.candlepowerforums.com/Rules.html

10. Fundraisers & Donations

No fundraisers or requests for donations will be allowed on CPF, unless it is for CandlePowerForums or CPFMaketPlace benefit (either partially or wholly). This includes, but is not limited to, raffles, auctions, sales of individual items and solicitations for donations to paypal accounts. Threads and/or posts that violate this rule will be removed by a member of the CPF staff.

There can and will, of course, be exceptions to this rule. But those exceptions will be in cases such as the Katrina kind where many of our members are in need or in such cases where it is obvious that an individual is in great need. The criteria I use for this is if I can't get away from it on TV/radio or if I have a phone number and/or address where I can verify that it is needed... ie. the phone number of the ICU unit where the individual is hooked up to life support. And by "individual", I mean a standing member of CPF.

I'm confused.
Is it happening or not?
If it does, I'm in. :)

Re: First Annual McGizmo Raffle

Even though your intentions seem genuine , raffles of any sort are out of the question in CPF, I can't find the thread right now , but it has been talked about before. Paypal won't allow it either... And what's Don's opinion in all this?

Re: First Annual McGizmo Christmas Award

Hi guys,
Thanks for the good intentions and kind words but raffles are a no no and some of you may not have been around long enough to know the history. I want to check with Greta (Sasha) about doing a garage sale here in the McGizmo forum (which was brought up a while back). However, my thinking is that it should be after the holidays to avoid any conflict in priorities for some of the members. Forums like the McGizmo forum were initially granted quite a bit of latitude but any activities in here need to be in keeping with the general rules and intent of CPF and I haven't kept abreast of all that might have changed. This is Greta's house and we are all visitors. :)

I think raffles are a great way to generate some revenue for CPF and give folks a shot at something they typically would not buy. However there are laws against such and I think I will stop at commenting further.

Re: First Annual McGizmo Raffle

No need paypal. I have the plan. We'll each send checks, with our name and number in order of pledge to Don, and he can do the rest. If need be, everyone will send me their check which I will deposit in an account. Then I will decide the winner. In that case, I will withdraw my pledge, so no chance the light would go to me, then order the light from Don for the winner. I'm trustworthy.
Your plan sounds pretty un-trustworthy to me, especially in light of what Don just posted. However, trustworthy or not, sounds like you should have contacted Don, looked at the rules and possibly contacted at least one moderator before even opening this can of worms. :shakehead
