Fellas ur a gals too, I have gotten myself into a net relationship of about a month now and things have just taken a turn I really didn't expect at all.
This is a really pretty woman and she has sent an email asking me if I would like to have her visit from Russia.
Just a couple of tid bits would be that I have just not mentioned I smoke cigarettes and I drink about once a month. These things I do feel she would not be happy about. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
I guess if Oksana reads this I have busted myself so I might be best to let her know before she makes a total commitment to the trip ay?

i had a good freind from bulgaria she looks very rushain.and spoke rushain it didnt end well i found out she was married but we are still frinds

Honesty is indeed REALLY the best policy!

You must mention that you smoke. You can probably lay off the drinking I imagine. But you'd NEVER hide the smoking!

Which is exactly the one thing that would make me ditch an otherwise perfect girl....

If she asks for money for the trip...beware...

Oksana, eh? I have a little chocolate hermaphrodite cocker spaniel named Oksana... I call her my little oxymoron... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Seriously... honesty is the best policy... and be prepared for the scam of your life. I hate to be so cynical but... well... think about it... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Wylie, how did you first come in contact with this woman? If it was from a reliable on-line dating service then I would assume there would be less chance it is a scam.

It would be a shame to pay for her trip over and discover there's a problem when she arrives.

Russia is a major exporter of very good Vodka.
Doubtful she will have a problem with the mild aroma of American cigarettes and an occassional drink. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

Be very careful with this relationship!

I know several men who saw some Russian beauties in a catalog of women who want to marry Americans.

In all cases, they brought the woman to the States and it was a nightmare. They suddenly appeared with children that the "groom" didn't know about and/or acted totally different once here.

I'm sorry to say that there were no success stories with these gals.

If you're really interested, you go to Russia and spend some time with her. Meet her family, talk to her friends and see how she lives her life.

If it doesn't click, come home alone.

there is a crazy show i watch some times called vvia l bam and he had one of his buddies marry a rushain bride!i kinda am atrated to women from that part of the world

This whole thing has kind of blown me over. The first email I returned to Oksana was from an old one I had found once I got hooked up to the internet again (netmail).
I look up the wememail server on the internet and find a page that is about scams and has pictures posted of scammers but I didn’t see this woman. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif
I don't want to be totally paranoid and if she does ask for any money or to be married before she leaves Russia the emails end.
If she is going to ask for money it will most likely happen with the next email so I might as well pursue with stuff I have omitted from the emails that have gone back and forth..

Playboy, I have to agree and this is why I didn’t tell her about the smoking and drinking. Looks like a long email coming up! I do feel a bit dishonest at this point although I didn’t lie.

Jbfla, Yep!

PEU, Thanks for the link, I did just happen onto this site while search her email address although it wasn’t listed.

Sasha, Oh thanks, the craziest stuff has been running through my head and you have hit on one of the stranger scenarios I have conceived of. God help me if this is some freak or hairy butt headed guy getting his kicks and trying to scam me. :shakingitoff:

Geepondy, I honestly cannot tell you where the emails started. It may have just been some harmless intention of fun over the internet with some woman in another country and it has gotten a little serious at this point.

Mr. Bulk, That hard stuff hits me HARD! Its not the drinking that I am at all worried about. The smoking is really an issue and has been with me for years. I even make my own cigarettes and sometimes dress them up with some Caribbean pipe tobacco. I hooked. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

Marty, Man do I hate flying! I was headed into JFK on 911 watching the whole mess on TV and didn’t even like flying or the idea of it before then. At this point if the email explaining my omissions goes over well and she pays for the trip I’ll take it step by step.

A little blunt and much shorter then anticipated but here it is.

Hi Oksana,
I have to say this has come as a great surprise and does make me very happy. I have imagined meeting you since we have began to send emails and would like to very much.

I have not told you everything about myself and do feel as though I should tell you some things so you will not be disappointed after making such a long trip.
I have just bought a house and do not have money to help with your trip or really even enough to help entertain you if you are to visit me. I still have some furnishings to buy for my house too.
I haven’t told you I do smoke cigarettes, I hope you don’t mind.
I also drink sometimes but not very often, I can do without really. I just bought a six pack of beer last night and didn’t drink any of them. I don’t really know why I bought them.
I have told you of my job, I am working a six day a week and have only been there for less then a years time so I will not be able to take time from work while you are here.
There is no public transportation in the area I live in. It is a very small town that doesn’t really have much for tourism.

I hope you are not disappointed upon receipt of this email, as I would very much like to have you visit.

Hope to hear from you soon,
Wylie

We'll see where it goes from here. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

While I'ma hopeless romantic, I haveto throw my two cents in with all the rest. There have been a lot of cases where people strike up net-friendships and one of them proves to be a swindler.

Really watch out for the little scams. I've heard of

1) I'll wire the money to your bank, just give me the account information.

2) I need you to cash this check / money oder for me.

3) They want american dollars and I only have rubles.

4) I'm stuck in New York and the flight was canceled and I don't have a credit card to rent a room, buy food, etc.

If you stop and think about it, would you travel to a strange country to stay with a person whom you don't know? I know that I would not.

Good luck

Daniel

i hope it works out for ya wylie.but if not there are plenty of fish in the ocean.but watch ya self. and ya money.

GL, I do agree it doesn't sound to be the norm and this is why I do have to watch out for myself.

Thanks Raggie, it would be nice if things would work out but I will just have to wait and see how things progress.

Thanks Folks,
I'll keep you updated.

Dude, best of luck. It's at worst a terrible scam that you have both eyes open for, it's great that so many have spoken up to warn you. At best, it may be something else, and at least it's been an entertaining interlude!

Here on the East Coast, there's been quite a bit of press about these Russian scams, with recent arrests in Russia, so stay on your toes and don't tell nobody no account numbers.

Sometimes the scam is just to get married, get a green card, sponge off of you for a while and then dump you. You would be surprised what people will do to get into a country they percieve as being paved in gold.

Or you might wake up and find your kidney missing. OK, I'm mostly just joking about the kidney thing, but it sounds to me like you are playing with fire here. Please be careful and do let us know what happens. Some of these scammers are amazingly shrewd and might take advantage of you before you know what happened despite the fact that you are on guard.
