Hello, three year lurker first time poster.

I have been buying many different manufactures of LED lights. I am always looking for the closest thing to a HID spot as I can get.

We live in the country and seeing my 2 Black Labs at night is a chore.

My cure was the Fenix TK-10 it solved all my troubles....but...there's always a but!

I looked at E-Bay and found a China based vendor selling the new P7-C that's rated at over 700 lumens and a current peak at 900 lumens..to be 1,000 lumens by years end.:sick2:
I think that about $86.00 later I wondered if I threw that Franklin out the window or is this new LED REALLY what they claim it to be?

I researched the LED and found several You Tube tests showing a MASSIVE white ball when it was turned on high... I was done.
I bought it as fast as I could.;)

Now I wait 10-18 days for EMS Mail to send it here from China.
I bought a Hugsby brand P-5 from the same vendor a while back. Holds 3x123's I dropped it 1 time on my gravel driveway and it was dead.:thumbsdow

I hope that I didn't get taken for a hundred dollar ride on this new P-7 LED.

Any one have one of these things? and is the new LED really as strong as they claim?

Thanks in advance for any and all comments,

Peace.

Which version of the MTE did you get?
The 2 mode or the 8 mode.

It is advisable to get check quality of product and alternative pricing before buying from ebay. And also postage costs!
I am pretty sure you bought from Quality China Goods. Dae the owner was well regarded on CPF but recently have not been price competitive.

The MTE is >3X as bright as a TK1. Not brighter hotspot, but bigger hotspot.
Something like this.

Do you have a link?

Was it one of these three lights, one, two, three?

I think most of these lights get around 400 lumen out the front. To get full output(around 700-800 at the LED) you might have to remove the "driver"(some are just a resistor).

I think 900 is the maximum for that bin but no LED has hit that output yet.

Mine is the two mode, low and go!:twothumbs

That link is the article that made me take a chance and buy it.
Rueters is pretty good about reasearch, trusted.

The next link is from Semi Conductor Today

It also reads like the P-7 is the newest sliced cheese in LED's.

I hope so, if not I blew a buck I could have spent in America on a brand name light. No biggie I guess. Just a bit nervous about trying a new product. But I swear living in between 1000 Acre corn fields in Wisconsin it is BLACK dark at night, and to see my dogs when potty breaks come it's worth it to me to take a chance.

Thanks for the input.

Peace.

If you want throw, the MTE P7 light is not the light of your choice. I have the 5 mode ond and it's beam is similar to the SF L4: a bright floody wall of light, good for illuminating the path in front of you when walking at night.

If you need to spot a target far away I'd use perhaps a RaidFire Spear (a bit more than 20000 lux @ 1m). My MTE P7 gives around 4000 lux.

The P7 LED is huge. To make it throw, you need a larger reflector than the MTE has. I'd stick to smaller LED's like crees if throw is what you are after.

I can't find the link where you bought your light from those 2 news links, can you post it?

Hey there POP good to see you made it over to the light side! A good P7 to go with the ss4 is always a great combo! Like the other guys said Wolf eyes is great, check with Mike over at PTS.

I hate to say it but in the end you get what you pay for. A cheaper light is likely to be less durable (but not always, it's a gamble imho).
I have been let down by the quality of cheaper lights in the past. They were nice and bright but broke easily. Not all of the cheap lights I've purchased have broke, but in the end I regret buying every one of them when comparing them to slightly more expensive but more reliable manufacturers. I've learned my lesson and since vowed only to buy quality lights from respected dealers. Over the past couple years I've had very little trouble with this. In the couple instances I did have an issue with my light the dealer was more than helpful in getting the problem fixed. There's more to a light than the LED or the claims of the manufacturer in how bright it is.

It is likely that the light isn't beyond repair and some simple troubleshooting and perhaps a drop of solder will get it back up and running. I'm sure a few of us around here would be happy to give you some tips on what to look for and hopefully how to fix it.

If you want throw, look for something like the Dereelight DBS or the Tiablo A8/A9.

They have less output but since their emitting surface is 4x smaller then the P7's(The P7 is essentially 4 Seoul P4s in one package, and Cree makes the Die for the Seoul P4 and hence the P7) the can throw further with the same reflector.

The Seoul P7 would be more of a floody light.
