Hi Don,

Have you considered the Luminous SST-50 for any of your builds? From a beam perspective, the output can be fairly even AND throwy given the right reflector design I'm thinking.

I have no idea how this LED looks from an efficiency point of view, nor would I know the best power source, or how to drive it. I just know that the beam looks pretty good for a relatively big die in a relatively small reflector.

While I don't see much interest to put the SST-50 in a small light as the Haiku, besides a shock and awe effect if you drive it a 2,8A, it would certainly be an option for a larger 27 head...

A problem is heat of course in a titanium light, which may be OK if you drive it a lower currents, but I doubt it will be very efficient, I'm certainly no expert. The question would be what gives the best beam, a hard driven XP-G or an underdriven SST-50?

Brian,

I have not experimented with any of the SST LED's. My initial impression based solely on their power is that they need to be hosted in larger platforms than I have been working with and further, require drivers that I don't have on hand or likely access to. I really haven't done anything with the MC-E or P7 for similar reasons. I have a full plate at the moment with existing offerings and trying to keep them open but I don't rule out anything in the future.

Thanks Don. I was just wondering as this LED has a beam pattern that was right down yhour alley. Totally understand about having your plate full.

Brian
